  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not a fan of Lizzo... but there's nothing really wrong with being like Detroit. CityNerd on Youtube did a tour of Detroit and it looks like it's a decent city, with lots of bike paths and some walkability. There's also alot of room for growth.
I've never been to Detroit, but I've lived in Baltimore for almost a decade now and... it's not The Wire.

It couldn't possibly be half as bad as Orlando.

Places like Detroit stand a better chance with Climate Change than the sunbelt cities Americans keep moving to.

I don't understand why a major candidate for POTUS would visit a city and then insult it. But I suppose attacking cities plays well for the MAGA base....

It plays to the people who live there who've maybe been the victims of certain crimes, or maybe don't feel safe in their own neighborhood anymore.

When you think about it, if someone runs for mayor/governor/state senate/etc... They're usually running on "here are the problems we have here, here's what I want to do to fix it, and here's how policies like the one my opponent is pitching exacerbated these problems in the first place"

...so this really isn't that abnormal.

Well, yes. local officials are actually responsible for public safety.

In this case, Trump was speaking to the Detroit Economic Club, a group of people who presumably have a stake in projecting a positive image of the city.

"The whole country is going to be like, you want to know the truth, it’ll be like Detroit. Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president, you’re going to have a mess on your hand. She destroyed San Francisco. She destroyed, along with Newsom, California, and we’re not going to let her do that to this country. We’re going to let it happen. So we are the piggy bank that everyone wants, that someday we will continue along the path. Really, it’s been an amazing path. It’s been a horrible period of time, but almost the last four years, I will tell you that if I get elected, we will be a piggy bank stronger than ever before, but we will be a fool no longer."

I'm not a fan of Lizzo, but I don't think Detroit is the worst city out there, as far as cities go... not even close. CityNerd on Youtube did a tour of Detroit and it looks like it's a decent city, with bike paths and some walkability. There's also alot of room for growth, and the downtown looks nice.

The population loss has changed and job availability is up. Folks that came for the NFL draft were pleasantly surprised.

Actually, he was saying that if Harris was president, the rest of the country would be like Detroit and it was insulting to Detroiters.
