  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

On Friday, my regular nurse came to give me my shot. He comes every two weeks to administer a shot to me for my mental illness. Most of the time it is him. Sometimes it is someone else. He had someone shadowing him on Friday. A woman, or so I thought. The woman looked very masculine. I can't prove it was actually a man though. Just had man-like hands, was very tall, and had a kind of fake femininity which I found really creepy.

The question would be if I should actually do something about it at this point. I don't think I should. I think I should wait until I get this same person to give my shot again (or perhaps this person will be the new person to give me my shot). The nurse I currently have is fine. I don't think he is a Christian. I have talked about my faith with him quite a bit. Obviously, he knows I am a Christian. He knows I like apologetics. He knows I like Christian Metal (which he actually thinks is pretty cool since he likes bands like Tool which is a band I used to really like but have since stopped listening to almost entirely because of my conviction against it). The nurse I currently have is changing positions a bit. He said he will still be in the field some, but he has this new role of training nurses and doing more administrative stuff. I am thinking that if this "trans" woman gives me my shot again, I should tell the company that having this person give me my shot makes me feel uncomfortable.

What are your thoughts on this?

50% of trans people will eventually attempt suicide. They have chosen a path that can have a brutal encounter with reality. Those who start this trajectory are seldom reachable as the strength of their desire shuts out any consideration of alternatives. It is usually only after one reaches the point of regret that an opportunity to show the love and forgiveness in Christ may be received. Those who may be trans may be best allowed to follow their path until they come to a point of regret.

You might simply show kindness and understanding.

Some trans folks have come to Christ and then realize their mistake. Why stop witnessing ? Yes they have made a huge mistake. Haven't we all in some way. But none is worse than passing on out of this life never knowing Jesus.

Hey, at least AI robots aren't out in the field ! Yet .

If you complain in some medical facilities they might refuse to treat you. Here is what the NY Times wrote. 'Is it ethical for patients to want their bigotry to be accommodated? That’s an easy question: no, because expressing bigotry isn’t ethical. The harder question is whether health care professionals ought to accommodate their bigotry." Should Patients Be Allowed to Choose — or Refuse — Doctors by Race or Gender? (Published 2019)

I already thought of that. The consequences are not important to me.

I'm sorry you feel uncomfortable. If the only thing they're doing is administering a shot you'll have less wiggle room on preferences than if the care was more intimate. This is one of those things you don't consider until you hear it or you're on the receiving end. Share your concerns with the Lord and ask for a female nurse. Let Him handle the rest.

I don't mind if I have a female or male nurse. I just don't want a "trans" nurse.

I should tell the company that having this person give me my shot makes me feel uncomfortable.
Just take your medicine. I'm sure this supposedly trans person cannot inject you with a shot that will make you gay or trans. I understand being uncomfortable with these people. It's a totally confusing issue. The thing is, now gay and trans people are protected by civil rights laws so the company can't really cater to homophobic or racist requests. By law it would be seen the same as requesting a white nurse.

My personal opinion (since you did ask), is that a shot is a shot is a shot. It doesn't really matter who administers the shot as long as they have the proper education/certification. Being afraid of a trans person is giving you a shot is an irrational thought that should be dismissed. Not to say that switching genders is right or normal but that's what we have in a secular free society. It's a bummer but you would probably need to move to an Islamic country with Sharia law. They don't allow any gays or trans to live, let alone work as nurses.. That would be a great place to live if one believes in discrimination. It's great, one can discriminate against any woman or sexual deviant.

That's odd. They can refuse to treat over a complaint?

I have heard of this in the USA too. The second article shows black nurses that were taken off duties because a racist man did not want them to touch his baby. If it is critical there is no refusal though. NHS staff can refuse to treat racist or sexist patients under new rules

I would as politely as possible speak to the administration and tell them that this nurse makes you feel uncomfortable and request that a different nurse provide care for you.

Yeah well since when has The NY Times been the authority on what is ethical? As far as I’m concerned there’s only One Authority on what is ethical and He’s already made His position clear.

In my later post I quoted this article where a nurse is suing the hospital for racial discrimination when she was reassigned after a man with a swastika asked the hospital to not allow any black nurses to tough his newborn. Patients refusing care from nurses of different race one of medicine's "open secrets"
They were discriminated against when they were reassigned to other duties. Sort of an interesting dilemma. no one is suggesting that anyone withhold critical care but as a practical matter, some accommodations might not be available.

The way I see it there’s a big difference between judging someone by the color of their skin and judging someone by their actions.

Even as a Progressive minded, I can agree with that. What someone was born as is not the same as what someone chooses to do.

Having said that, I must also say that in the way of being "born that way," I believe that some are born with a same sex attraction. In my not-so-common opinion those people are NOT gay unless they act upon the attraction and have gay sex. If this is the only type of sex you have, it's no worse than adultery or fornication. If you know that about yourself it's best to just go on outings and have intimate non-sexual time. Many joined the cloth for that and other possible behaviors that are perverse. I have taken a vow of celibacy (unless I find a wife) because I know fornication is just as bad whether it is with the same or different sex.

So like I say, I agree with the statement quoted with a rather large caveat.

If you are concerned then I would talk to the supervisor. They must have someone else they could sent out.

So, the person might not be trans. It might be a very tall woman, or it might be a man with somewhat feminine mannerisms. If it's a cisgender person with an unusual appearance, would you be okay with that?

One in 500 people have a genetic issue. For example an extra sex hormone that the rest of us don't have. No doubt they have real issues in life but just because they struggle and are mixed up and confused does not mean we should allow them to drag us into their confusion.

This is why we need to trust God. We learn not on our own understanding. He will guide us and lead us in the way we are to go no matter what the issues are we have to deal with in life.
