  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Half of US clergy backs Trump — with only 23% backing Harris: survey

Speak for yourself, please. I am a Christian, and I certainly would dismiss the view of any clergyman who supported such a profoundly morally compromised candidate as Donald Trump.
And I will dismiss the view of any clergyman who supports a profoundly morally compromised person such as Kamala Harris.

I'd say a person who had 6 bankruptcies is less wise about business than someone who has no business experience.
I'd go along with that, if I measured the level of a man's success by how many times he failed along his ascent to greatness.

How many times did Edison fail before he gave us a light bulb?

It only takes one to wipe out the grid. If that happens it is estimated that 90% of Americans will die off in the first year.
O groovy. Nuclear paranoia.
I'm prepared. Do you feel lucky?
Why would I bother? I expect my house to be inside the fireball if Putin ever takes that shot.

They've been burning up their outdated gear in Ukraine. They're saving their good stuff for what is to come.
Oh sure they are, sure they are. We could talk about tanks. Let's talk about tanks.

The latest and greatest Russian tank is the T-14 Armata. It is their answer to the M1 Abrams US tank and similar tanks from Europe. So far none have seen combat in Ukraine, but that is more because only a couple dozen have been produced and have never been shown to be combat effective. (There was an attempt by the Russian state/media to suggest it would be sent to Ukraine, but it never appeared.) Instead they began the war using T-90 and T-80 tanks. (In each case, the number ir roughly the year the original version was designed. Most of these have many updated variants over the years, so a T-80 is not necessarily operating with 45 year-old technology.) As the war ground on, they started using more and more T-72 tanks and then T-64 tanks taken out of the storage yards and rehabbed. The same has happened with armored fighting vehicles.

TL;DR: Far from saving their best stuff for later, Russia has been dragging their old junk out of storage and putting it combat.

Russia has stopped producing new tanks for the most part and is putting their tank plants into more productive work repairing and upgrading tanks in the storage yards. The quality of Russian military gear has gone down with time, Ukraine's has gone up due to imports of NATO equipment. (And we're not even sending most of our best stuff.)

That's interesting. I just read an article that said that Russia can outproduce the US, militarily, at the present time.

I'm not going to go digging for the article; but you might want to consider that.

If only the US were the only supplier to Ukraine. (I do know that Russia has bigger production capacity for artillery shells than the US.)

LOL!

Those are basically the same numbers.

The Christianity Today article includes quite a bit more information,
than you mention.

And, you should consider that these numbers probably are heavily weighted
by Protestant groups, rather than by Catholic or Orthodox groups.

My point in mentioning the added information, is that the numbers are essentially
the same as in 2020, when Trump lost the election. I don't think that these poll
numbers, are insightful, as to predicting this coming election outcome.

I dunno. 6 bankruptcies shows you know how to get out while ahead and leave others holding the bag.

I applaud what these Catholics have done: Major Catholic group launches ads attacking Kamala Harris over taxpayer-funded sex changes for kids

N. Korea isn't so shabby with their shell production either.

Hopefully this Administration has enough sense not to escalate this beyond a conventional war; but that prospect isn't looking very promising.

All I see is empty rattling of the "nuclear sabre" by Putin. No one with power else is even discussing nuclear escalation as a path.

That's odd. I regularly hear whinging on this very site about how few "so-called" (as they are often tagged) Christians go to church regularly, or have a "Biblical worldview", or Catholics about the large number of their fellows that don't follow the Church's teachings on birth control or abortion.

Don't think "listening to clergy" on politics is super high in the pews.
Some people have their own views and don’t accept what religion tells them. Not shocking by any means.
