  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Catholics, evangelicals explore common ground rooted in shared ‘love of Jesus Christ’

I never heard of Jack Chick until several years ago
He's now deceased. To put it mildly, he was rather an anti-Catholic bigot.

There has been a divide among different evangelical groups regarding the RCC for some time. When I was going through my "... is, is, is the RCC Mystery, Babylon the Great?" phase, I came across a book in 1995 which gave me pause to reconsider. I bought that book, of course. (And I've listed it below).

From that time on in the mid-1990s, I had something to reflect upon by which to break the spell I was under while doing my initial research of Church History. And since then, I've become aware of other evangelicals who are more or less open to fellowshipping with those in the RCC as well.

As it turns out, it's usually the more conservative Calvinistic evangelicals who are antagonistic toward the RCC. Other sorts of evangelicals are less so, or sometimes not at all. I'd have to look up more info, but I'm guessing that even before 1995, there have been a number of evangelicals who have always been open to fellowshipping with the RCC (or with the Orthodox).

Geisler, Norman L., and Ralph E. MacKenzie. "Roman Catholics and Evangelicals." Agreements and Differences. Grand Rapids: Baker Academic (1995).
I always found it funny they called the RCC the Harlot of Revelation, when they claimed it didn't exist until Constantine in the 300s.

No, you can't make this stuff up.

The hyperzealots once stuck Chick leaflets on all the cars in my church parking lot.
In a Catholic Church parking lot?

Why do people waste their time like this?

Ignorance.
Yup.

It's kinda like how one Evangelical lady made a Facebook rant about how worshipping Mary etc is a ticket to HELL.

Yet, she sends me condolences when my Catholic grandmother was on her deathbed.

I have since blocked her. She has her own demons to handle with.

So much cognitive dissonance.

Yes there are some that are more in love with
Being correct than actually learning. They are the clinging vines to those antiCatholic myths they’ve been taught. They do not even bother to investigate.

Agreed. To them God is all about brownie points based on how many souls they can save. It’s a little bizarre.

Probably for the same reason the Jehovah Witnesses have written me letters.
We gotten those too. My mother was LIVID when we first got one several years ago. It was addressed “friend.”

Lol

My mother was like I have my own religion, I don’t need theirs! ;)
Haha. MY mother invited them in a few times when they came to her door. I don’t know what her point was in doing that except that she was lonely and liked having company. But then one of them wanted her to put her cigarette out and I think she stopped inviting them.
