  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think my sister's friend needs an exorcism, what do you think?

Good to deal with the medical issues first. something to consider:

If underlying the nature of the torment is "occult" then it would make sense if they don't feel hungry and try to isolate themselves.

The main difference (between occult oppression and demonic oppression) is that humans are involved egging the torment on, and people cannot be exorcised, so a different methodology is required to remove the issue.

I hope she finds the help she needs.

Nothing wrong with trying deliverance for every ailment and obstacle in life. Why not? Her only problem is that her friends and family may not know someone that is experienced and anointed in this. Of course, she should go to Dr's too. Praying she gets found and treated and finds healing mentally, physically and spiritually.

It's my understanding that if it is suggested that someone needs an exorcism, a priest would get medical advice first to rule out mental illness.

According to the Mayo Clinic, schizophrenic symptoms usually start in the mid to late 20's. I gather this young lady is around that age, and as there is already that mental illness in the family I suppose it's possible it could be one cause of her problems.

In most people with schizophrenia, symptoms generally start in the mid- to late 20s, though it can start later, up to the mid-30s. Schizophrenia is considered early onset when it starts before the age of 18. Onset of schizophrenia in children younger than age 13 is extremely rare.

As for hearing voices, that is one common feature of schizophrenia.

Some people suffering from severe mental illness, particularly schizophrenia, hear “voices,” known as auditory hallucinations. This symptom, which afflicts more than 80% of patients, is among the most prevalent and distressing symptoms of schizophrenia.

21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[g]
23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[h] was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.[i] He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’
30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.

32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Holding on to unforgiveness is a severe hindrance. Many Christians are under demonic oppression, because they refuse to forgive others who have offended them. Holding on to unforgiveness keeps an open door to the enemy.

First thing to do is find out if there is anyone that she needs to / or has refused to forgive.
That’s actually very good Catholic advice.

My sister lived with a group of girls in college, they were all from her evangelical campus group InterVarsity. All Christian girls. They graduated college over 10 years ago, and most of them have gone on and gotten married, started families, etc. One of her friends however has lately been having some mental issues that are disturbing my sister and the other girls, and the irony is if you knew this group a decade ago this girl would probably be the one you'd consider least likely to have these issues.

My sister just gave me an update today and said she and her roommates called in a wellness check on this girl (we'll call her Amber). Amber's behavior has become really erratic, apparently a while back she moved to a really isolated county a couple hours away, which is a strange move for a single girl in her early 30s to do. From the sound of things she's visiting in town right now and my sister says she's extremely thin and has stopped eating and even drinking water. Apparently Amber won't talk about it with anybody but another roommate shared that Amber told her she thinks it's a sin to eat and hears voices if she does.

When I heard that part I told my sister that Amber needs an exorcism. The hearing voices part makes me think she's 100% experiencing demonic possession, or at least demonic oppression. I realize there's mental health issues at play here as well, Amber's sister has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder so there is illness already in the family. When my sister and her friends called in the wellness check the authorities said Amber didn't fully qualify for a 5150 but if she went another 12 hours without eating, then she would. Unfortunately Amber has since skipped town and nobody knows where she is right now.

What do you think?
Evil happens with trauma, yes. But she needs help asap.
Meds perhaps for schitzo? and she needs deep healing in her subconscious.
I'm thinking voices are real deep trauma. Teased in school, or abuse and or neglect by parents, and self disgust which is the problem enough to starve herself. Anorexia is self sabotage.

It wouldn't hurt to see a priest. But meds and therapy for her inner turmoil helps too.

Evil only replays trauma repeatedly and self talk. SO I will pray for her. :crossrc: :prayer: :prayer::crossrc:
I heard there is a surge in psychosis.

Update: she keeps bouncing around, last I heard she went to another city where some other part of her family lives about three hours south of here. Her mom seems to be downplaying the situation, but my sister's hoping that this other family she's with (an aunt I think?) will be more aggressive in seeing that she gets help.

Another detail I learned about her behavior since my last post is that this friend refuses to acknowledge men. I asked if there was some kind of trauma related to men in her recent past like an assault but my sister has no idea what might've been going on with her friend since they graduated college. As in, she thinks there could be a lot her friend has kept hidden. But her friend won't even acknowledge her own father in the room let alone any other male. She came to town and visited one of my sister's other friends who's married with kids, and "Amber" wouldn't even acknowledge the other friend's husband, who has been a part of their whole friend's circle since their first year of college. So Amber knows him well.

It sounds like schizophrenia to me---but I got my degree in psychiatric medicine from a correspondence school located in East Slobovia, so don't take my diagnoses with any confidence.

It could, also, be demonic oppression. But you can't make any determination on that score until you eliminate the possibility of medical or mental conditions. And, of course, you have to get her there to find that out. My advice is to pray for her, long and hard.
