  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

‘My mother would say, ‘The only reason you’re here is because the hanger didn’t work’,’ Sylvester Stallone recalled – and according to the Abortion Survivor’s Network, there have been more than 85,000 babies like him in the US alone.

On a recent episode of the podcast “Unwaxed with Sophia & Sistine Stallone,” Hollywood action star Sylvester Stallone dropped a bombshell: He is an abortion survivor.

His daughters were interviewing him about his autobiographical Netflix documentary, Sly, which covers the Stallone story from his underdog days to celebrity fame. His daughters asked him about his mother, Jackie Stallone. “You had said that your mom was nervous to have you,” said Sistine. “She didn’t want you, right?”

“Not at all,” replied Stallone. “My mother would say, ‘The only reason you’re here is because the hanger didn’t work’ or ‘bouncing down those steps didn’t cause you to get lost.’ And she said that, ‘You know, truthfully, Sylvester… you know, if there was something really wrong with your brain, I would have definitely opened up the window and put you on the windowsill and let you freeze because I’d be doing you a favor.’”

As Nancy Flanders of Live Action News noted: “Based on these remarks, it sounds as if Stallone’s mother had tried to kill him in at least one, perhaps multiple, DIY abortion attempts.” Stallone’s story clearly seemed to stun his daughters – Sistine’s jaw dropped. “What type of mother says that to their child?” Sophia asked him.

Wow what a revelation. Poor old Sly, but thats what makes him a fighter.

But it got me thinking about abortion in a different way when you think about Stallone and what he has achieved. His uniqueness and presense in the world. If he was aborted he would have never existed and we would not have come to know him.

Yet I think much of Stallones traits, his personality, temperament, his core self would have existed with his unique genetic code from conception. Sure his personal experiences would have refined the genetic code but he still would have been a unique person. Maybe not a movie star but someone that stood out in his own unique way to those around him. His life would have traversed in some way that was important and had meaning.

Just imagine all those who have been aborted. They could have been someone, someone of great note that made a difference.

I think this aspect of abortion is hard to deny in this context. Rather than just seeing the fetus as a clump of cells and tissue in a detached and confined way within the present. But one of what would have been if not aborted. It makes the moment of first conception much more a powerful reason to not take lightly that even at conception we have laid down the blueprint of a unique person that has been mapped out for their entire life.

There is no point during gestation and deveopment in the womb where we could say something new has been added that was not already encoded from the fertilisation. The developing baby is only developing according to an already tiny unique code that lays out a unique person of great potential.

In that sense we cannot say at any stage there is no unique human person. Its not from birth to death. Its from conception to death. That is the total life of a human person.

In fact according to God it is even before conception. Any fertilisation of the male and female eggs that take hold in the womb was known by God before they were concieved. They will be as they would have been if born and lived in some form in heaven with God.
