  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think my sister's friend needs an exorcism, what do you think?

My sister lived with a group of girls in college, they were all from her evangelical campus group InterVarsity. All Christian girls. They graduated college over 10 years ago, and most of them have gone on and gotten married, started families, etc. One of her friends however has lately been having some mental issues that are disturbing my sister and the other girls, and the irony is if you knew this group a decade ago this girl would probably be the one you'd consider least likely to have these issues.

My sister just gave me an update today and said she and her roommates called in a wellness check on this girl (we'll call her Amber). Amber's behavior has become really erratic, apparently a while back she moved to a really isolated county a couple hours away, which is a strange move for a single girl in her early 30s to do. From the sound of things she's visiting in town right now and my sister says she's extremely thin and has stopped eating and even drinking water. Apparently Amber won't talk about it with anybody but another roommate shared that Amber told her she thinks it's a sin to eat and hears voices if she does.

When I heard that part I told my sister that Amber needs an exorcism. The hearing voices part makes me think she's 100% experiencing demonic possession, or at least demonic oppression. I realize there's mental health issues at play here as well, Amber's sister has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder so there is illness already in the family. When my sister and her friends called in the wellness check the authorities said Amber didn't fully qualify for a 5150 but if she went another 12 hours without eating, then she would. Unfortunately Amber has since skipped town and nobody knows where she is right now.

What do you think?

She needs to see a doctor. Sounds like my sister. I would say it is definitely a mental health issue. :praying:

Probably a mental health issue. A good doctor and someone to make sure she's on her meds.

But consider maybe a deliverance instead of an exorcism. They aren't the same. The need for an exorcism is rare. The need for deliverance not so rare.

Sometimes (often even) a problem is mental AND spiritual. In those cases both need treatment.

Yes, see a psychiatrist or doctor.
Good call everyone. Hopefully she resurfaces somewhere, right now my sister and their friends have no idea where she is.

Her loved ones should call non-emergency dispatch, and ask them for advise.

One cannot live long without water.

Its the not drinking part that could end up being a dire situation, not to mention someone taking advantage of her in her physically and mentally weakened state.

She is missing. First find her and possibly save her life.

Meanwhile, pray for her and the authorities to be guided to her location.

First responders need our prayers too.

She’s in psychosis right now I’m sure. My sister gets all those symptoms, quits eating, etc. She needs to be hospitalized and evaluated imo. Someone should file a missing person report.

Lord, please protect the brave men and women in ___________ community who serve as police, firefighters and paramedics. Please guide these men and women and help equip them mentally, physically and spiritually to confront the scenes and scenarios set before them. I pray for strength and for Your guidance. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Please, if you are able, pray for mercy before the monstrance in adoration, online or in person, for this rescuing and for their soul.

Here is some inspirational Gregorian chant to help out.

May her Guardian angel hear our prayers

Lamb of God have mercy upon us

Blessed Mother, wrap your child in your mantle of protection

My sister spoke with her mom last week (and full disclosure, my sister has worked in mental health for almost 10 years and has a Master's in Psychology). In my sister's words, "...it was weird. She gave me a bunch of details that I didn't know before, and was so nonchalant about it. I don't know if she's just overwhelmed or what. Her older daughter has bipolar, so maybe she's worried about the same thing happening to [Amber]."

It seems like the family isn't helpful. I told my sister she may need to just get with her other friends and pray, either God will give them inspiration about something more they can do or he'll give them peace with what's already been done.

Does your sister ever hear voices in that state? If "Amber" hasn't returned to her parents who live about six hours away, then maybe someone will file a report.

Absolutely. The voices tell her all sorts of destructive things. It’s like a slow suicide. Like a terrorist in your mind holding you hostage and tormenting you. She refused to eat and drink on several occasions. As you know, she attempted suicide last December and almost succeeded. She was in ICU for quite sometime before being admitted to the mental facility. These episodes cause trauma to the brain. Her brain has shrunk 25%. She has been diagnosed with schizophrenia as well as bipolar issues. She often refuses medication so now she is on an injectable every two weeks as well as taking oral meds. (When and if she takes them). She still struggles though. I think the injectable is what’s barely keeping her on some sort of foundation as shaky as it is. It’s a daily thing where anything could happen as she is drawn to conspiratorial type of things which is very bad for unstable people. The doctor even told us that conspiracies are hugely unhealthy and have pushed even stable people over the edge. It really is a dangerous condition to have but I do not think most realize how dangerous. It really sounds a lot like my sisters’s situation. She walked out of the house late one night and walked 10 miles down the road in her bare feet. Her husband had to go get her in the middle of the night. And this was after her suicide attempt, stay at the facility, meds, etc. it’s a constant struggle. Those who love her need to take this situation very seriously.

Considering Jesus half of his ministry was deliverance, and demon influence is worst imo today, because the more evil there is the more people allow the devil to take hold of their lives. But they are 'sneaky' and like to hide and blind people they don't exist..

Nobody is denying the existence of demons. But these situations can be extremely dangerous. You seek out a physician first.
The diocesan exorcist would need to see a doctor's report anyway in evaluation of whether an exorcism was called for.

I think she is Protestant though. They do not follow the same protocol. :praying:

True. But then who ya gonna call?

If there's something strange
In your neighborhood
Who you gonna call?
(Ghostbusters)
If there's something weird
And it don't look good
Who you gonna call?
(Ghostbusters)

No, but even any sane Protestant exorcist would take the medical situation into account. I agree with "physician first."

The problem is the ones I knew weren’t all that sane in that area in my experience.

The IVCF folks I knew when I were involved with them were three quarters sane. We were a bit green back then but not goofy.

21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[g]
23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[h] was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.[i] He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’
30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.

32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Holding on to unforgiveness is a severe hindrance. Many Christians are under demonic oppression, because they refuse to forgive others who have offended them. Holding on to unforgiveness keeps an open door to the enemy.

First thing to do is find out if there is anyone that she needs to / or has refused to forgive.
