  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the role of Christians in modern politics?

Do you think Jesus would have spoken on voting if Israel would have been lead by elected officials when he was on Earth? If so, what?

Do you think he would have participated in an election if one were held?

Do you think he would have taught

I would be careful of trying to identify the correct Christian response to politics with what our Lord would do. Mainly because Christ is a King whereas we are plebs and we thus approach the political from different perspectives. Christ as Lord and King does not need to vote, since it is his will that appoints political leaders in the first place. Voting implies only a say, whereas our Lord does not only have a say, but the means of determination of our political leadership.

When we approach politics as Christians from our perspective, I'd say it is our duty as Christians to recognize the fundamentals of political reality and that you cannot escape power. That the political boils down to our relationship between our friends and our enemies and we have more of a duty to our friends to our enemies. Modern Christians try to pretend they have no enemies and it leaves them weak.

No. I really don’t. He was concerned about The Kingdom of God and His mission more than politics. Politics are very temporary.
