  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Silencing Jordan Peterson... Canada takes action.

The Supreme Court of Canada have ruled he must undergo 're-education'...

The ruling over-rides the Canadian Government's constitutional right to free speech.

Reaction to Supreme Court of Canada Ruling and Mandated Re-Education

Aug 10 2024
A brief discussion of Dr. Jordan B. Peterson’s court case regarding freedom of speech in Canada. The College of Psychologist’s is forcing mandatory “social media re-training” in order for Jordan to keep his license, after a dozen or so complaints were submitted online about his tweets and Joe Rogan podcasts. The Supreme Court has ruled against his appeal, ruling that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms has no force against the mid level bureaucrats who rule the professional colleges and regulatory boards. This is a blow to all working professionals in Canada who value freedom of speech, to say nothing of those they serve.

More accurately, the Canadian Supreme Court denied his appeal. The college of psychologists if Ontario decided that he needed to undergo reeducation, more or less gor unprofessional behavior. This board is responsible for licensing of psychologists in Ontario.

He's just whining

I wish somebody would silence him. There are a lot of self-important windbags out there, but man does he stand out among them, and not just because of his ridiculous suits.

So, to put it in less alarmist terms.

This isn't the government mandating that an everyday ordinary citizen have to attend some sort of "re-education camp" (1984 style)

He doesn't have to attend if he doesn't want to.

This is basically a higher court saying they're not going to overturn the decision of a lower governing body that suggested that he needs to undergo a social media engagement training if he wishes to keep his professional license in good standing.

Now, do I think it's a political hit-job for that license issuing body to file the motion to make him take, what could be considered for all intents and purposes, a watered down "sensitivity training" of sorts? Yeah, probably. He has a mindset about certain issues that goes against the grain in comparison to his peers and colleagues north of the border, he's high profile, and it's an easy way for them to score points with the Liberal party up there when it comes time for budget discussions.

But that's very different than the advertised headline is implying of "Government forcing people to attend re-education" (as to make it sound like it's some sort of Maoist system)

His psychology license isn't even his primary source of income anymore and I doubt he was seeing that many patients (if any?) these days given that he has a pretty packed speaking tour and works full-time making content for the DailyWire.

So you're saying it's like if all the members of The View globbed into one mass, gained the ability to grow a beard, and sounded a little bit like kermit the frog?

Its not people like Peterson who need 're-educating'. It is the thin skinned people out there.

eg.
What Atkinson was saying had absolutely nothing to do with the recent UK riots and discussions about inciting violence online. His comments were made quite a few years ago on an entirely different matter.

If you think that the right to insult someone and the right to incite violence or the right to intentionally spread misinformation are all the same, then I guess it doesn't matter who you listen to or what they say.

Have you played the game Inside? If so, do you remember the creature at the end?

Of the times I’ve been presented with content from Peterson, half the time he’s been bloviating about something he doesn’t understand and the other half he’s whining about being put upon.

This is a wake up call...

Comment appreciated.
Dr Peterson is a well known crank. He work on addiction was grounded and valid but when he opines outside of his field is expertise he is clueless.

Psychologists are held to exceedingly high ethical standards. If he cannot or refuses to do so he will lose his licence.

When is similar to an MD struck off for mal practice. The academic world has standards.

Well you say that but if I said something bad about Jesus would you laugh it off?

We are all thin skinned about the things we care about.

That would be on your head, not mine. Besides the majority of the world already does.
So would you laugh it off or not? Are we not all thin skinned about something?
