James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder.
Besides, do people who call Jesus "Lord" believe ? Why then do many of them perish ?

There is something we have to do according to Christ 1 John 1:9 and we must forsake our sins Pro 28:13. We are not saved in our sins, we are saved from sin Mat 1:21. When Jesus heals from sin- He said go and sin no more- we have to have a conversion- die of self- be reborn in Christ Romans 6:1-4
Yes, we need to keep the commandments, no doubt.
When Jesus asked which ones for eternal life He quoted directly from the Ten Commandments and from the Greatest commandments
Mat 5:17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
Jesus taught not to break the least of the commandments as the Ten Commandments came in a unit of Ten Exo 34:28 Deut 4:13 personally written by the finger of God Exo 31:18 Exo 32:16 and when not obeying-Jesus said one would be in fear of sin and Judgement Mat 5:19-30 which we see in Rev 22:14-15
We are commanded to believe in Jesus- so the question is, if we believe in Jesus can we also not believe in His teachings or not follow the example He left for us. 1 John 2:6 I don’t think so. Mat 7:21-23 If in Christ why would someone not want to follow His teachings or the example He left us. We need to be live Jesus Christ!

You must believe that James' argument does apply to this situation.
James 2:18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe — and tremble! NKJV
In James' argument he states clearly that the demons believe there is one God, and fear. (One problem for the unbelieving Jews is they couldn't get their mind around Father, Son and Holy Spirit) James' argument doesn't apply to the situation we are talking about. But I said that once and you didn't believe me, so I will get another witness.
Hebrews 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. NKJV
Jesus had to be just like those He came to save. Jesus does nothing to save good or bad angels. Can I get another witness.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. NKJV
Hebrews 2:16 unless one is born human and then born of the Spirit they cannot enter heaven. Born of water means a human birth then a Spiritual birth. If an angel was to be born again, since they were born a spirit the first time, they would have to be born of the flesh. Since the demons rebelled in a spirit body, they would not have a chance in a flesh body. Don't ask about the good angels. Hebrews above states Jesus does no good for angels at all.
Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' NKJV
People who trust Jesus for salvation know that works have nothing to do with their salvation. Those people were trusting in their works.
