In Matthew, Mark and Luke when Jesus referred to the commandments, He always referred to them as just the commandments or the commandment(s) of God. He never referred to them as my commandments.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." NKJV

The first mention of a commandment in the gospel of John was when He gave His disciples a new commandment. This is a commandment that was not in the OT law or OT commandments.

John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever NKJV

John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." NKJV

The next two times He mentions commandments He calls them His commandments. If we keep His commandments, we love Him, and the Father will love us. We know one of His commandments, which is the new commandment that He gave to His disciples.

In John 14:31 He mentioned the Father gave Him commandment. He was referring to the Father's commandment that He should die for the sins of the world. This is prophecies in the OT and any prophecy about His first coming was considered a commandment from the Father. 1Peter 1: 10-11 We know the Spirit of Jesus gave the OT prophets their word of prophecy, but the Father must have given them to Jesus.

John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. 11 "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. NKJV

In verse 15 He mentions My commandments again and He distinguished them from His Father's commandments. The Fathers commandments that He kept was the OT commandments, law and all prophecy concerning His first coming. The Fathers commandments are the law, the 10 commandments. Unless a prophecy pertains to us it would not be a commandment to us. In verse 12 He mentions the new other new commandment that He gave them, as one of His commandments.

What are Jesus' commandments?

1 John 2:3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. NKJV

In 1John he writes His commandments but does not state what they are. Whoever keeps His word the love of God is perfected in him. To keep His word the person is in the Spirit, through the Spirit, putting to death the sins of the flesh.

1 John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. NKJV

In verse 23 John tells us just what His commandments are. His commandments are: 1- believe in the name of God's Son, Jesus Christ. 2- love the brethren as Jesus loved us.

In verse 22 If we keep his commandments, the two above, and we do things pleasing in His sight, which means we walk in the Spirit. To walk in the Spirit means we obey the commands that He gives us to follow.

Example: If a new unmarried Christian was involved in an affair with a married woman. God has forgiven his sins and granted him repentance to life. The young man is not conducting himself as a son of God. Jesus will tell him just what he has to do to keep in the Spirit. Jesus will command the man to not commit adultery, or He will discipline him. Before discipline started the man could refuse discipline. In that case the man lost salvation. He would not be granted forgiveness or repentance again.

If the man accepted discipline, God would make him sick. Then, as in Thyatira, He will put him through sickness, tribulation then death. Galatians 5: 18 the man was put under the law if he did not walk in the Spirit. Romans 8: 1- 4 the law of sin and death is fully met only when we walk in the Spirit. If we do not walk in the Spirit, we are under the law of sin and death. If the man accepted discipline and did not repent, he would die [physically and go to heaven. If he repented Jesus would keep giving him commands to keep him in the Spirit. These commands will match the commandments in the law.

Hebrews 12: 6 God loves those He disciplines. If the person submitted himself to getting sick knowing that it would end in death and He did not repent, he had passed the point of eternal life. If he did not repent, he would have, through the Spirit, put to death the sins of the flesh. Gods loves him because He disciplined the person. He scourged him, put him through tribulation and put him to death. The man would go to heaven. Read 1 Corinthians 5: 1- 11 the example I gave matched him except he did repent. However, in verses 6-8 Paul said the flesh would die and the soul would be saved if he did not repent.

1 John 4:21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. NKJV

The new commandment He gave in the gospel. If we love Him, we must love the brethren.

1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. NKJV

His commandments. One- Believe in Him, the Son of God, who died for forgiveness of sin and and was resurrected for your justification. Two- Love the brethren as Jesus loved us.

To recap. When we come in God forgives our sins and grants us repentance to the point of life. At the point of life we have done no works. Some people at the point of eternal life choose not to be disciplined, they lose salvation and will eventually die and go to the other place. Some chose to take discipline and not repent to walk in the Spirit. Because God forgave their sins and granted repentance to them they only obeyed Jesus' two commandments. They died and went to heaven.

The wise Christians choose to be discipline, repented, and followed the commandments of Jesus to walk in the Spirit until they died or were persecuted to death. So, a living Christian is obeying Jesus' commandments and God's commandments, doing works, to walk in the Spirit till they die. The reason everyone in heaven, redeemed by Jesus, got into heaven is because they obeyed Jesus' commandments.

Can I get another witness?

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. NKJV

What's the context of the above. John 7:31-32, Revelation 2:13 Satan threatening Christians living on earth after he was kicked out of heaven. They are obeying the commands of Jesus, commandments of God, to stay in the Spirit and live. They are obeying His two commandments and doing things pleasing to His sight.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. NKJV

The context of the above is Christians living during the tribulation. They are obeying the commandments of Jesus to stay in the Spirit and live. They are obeying His two commandments. by his faith in Jesus, and doing things pleasing to His sight, obeying His commands to walk in the Spirit, doing works.

Revelation 22:12 "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." 14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
NKJV

What's the context of the above? Christians who have died and now live eternally in heaven. They had to obey the commandments of God to walk in the Spirit in order to keep physical life and earn rewards. Whose commandments did they obey to get into heaven? Everyone redeemed Christ had to obey His commandments, no other commandments, Jesus' two commandments, to enter heaven.

Loved by God every one of them.

Yet Rev 22:15 lists at least 5 commandments right from the Ten Commandments and we are told those who do not keep the commandments of God, which is any of them is a liar and there is no truth in them 1 John 2:4 so that would include breaking any of the commandments- breaking one we break them all James 2:10-12 hence why Jesus taught not to break the least of these commandments Mat 5:19-30

Love to God and love to man do not go undefined in scripture Rom 13:9 and are fulfilled by love when we keep all of God's commandments 1 John 5:2-3, they were never multiple choice or optional.

The main thing that matters to God is the development of the spiritual being, the divine nature. Application exercises that help strengthen, grow, and mature the spiritual body is what matters.

Since we have been given a new life, developing and strengthening that life through faith matters the most.

Clean the inside of the cup, and the outward appearance will follow.

Context: read verse 14. Outside the gates of the new Jerusalem are those who are not redeemed by Jesus. They cannot enter the gates. Only those that obeyed His commandments.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter through the gates into the city. NKJV

What does it say about those who obey His Commandments? They are blessed. They have the right to the tree of life and can enter the gates. Why can they enter the gates?

Revelation 21:25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. NKJV

They can enter the gates because they are in the Lamb's book of life.

If they are in the Lamb's book of life, they must have met all the requirements. Therefore. they had the correct amount of love for Him and for their brethren.

Rev 22:14-15 is at His Second Coming for all mankind. Two groups- saved or lost. Yes, the saints are blessed and what commandments are being quoted- directly from the Ten Commandments, the ones so many people advocate for some reason we don't have to keep, despite no scripture saying so and Jesus teaching and keeping them..

Mr. SabbathBlessings.

Yes, there are 2 groups, the saved who have already been judged. They have the righteousness of Jesus and judged for rewards. The righteous were forgiven their sins. Those committed in Jesus were disciplined in Jesus, Once disciplined He will forgive our sins. He cannot remember any sin the righteous committed.

The unrighteous are judged for their sins when they die the first time. John 3:18 if they do not believe in Jesus they are condemned. As for the named sins in Revelation 22:15 every one of the unrighteous broke every law and commandment of God including Jesus' two. The two that sent them to hell the first time were not keeping His commandments.

The Kingdom Torah, or the law of the kingdom of Israel was called the royal law by the Jews. That included all of Moses laws as well as the commandments. James 2: 10 if you break one law, Leviticus 19:18, you break all of them. Every one of the unrighteous group broke every law and commandment that God made.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. NKJV

Blessed is the righteous because Jesus kept every law, commandment and every commandment that the Father only gave to Him. Because Jesus did that, we get His righteousness by keeping His 2 commandments. That's what it says in verse 14.

Mr. Bling.

I am sorry I did reply to you. I was sent SabbathBlessings reply to my post I did not see yours till I got here.

I overstated that everyone who was redeemed obeyed His commandments. The OT saints knew nothing about His two commandments.

Acts 10:43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins." NKJV

He believed the OT prophets. Luke 23:42 he proved that when he asked Jesus to be in His kingdom. I trust that you recognize that as Jesus first commandment.

Thank you

Salvation and forgiveness of Sin is by grace and through faith. We can never ever, even as born again Christians, do enough to be worthy of eternal life in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ. No matter how many good works a born again Christian does, no matter how many of God's commands we obey, we will not ever deserve to be forgiven of our Sin. The Lord's grace is God's Riches At Christ's Expense. The salvation from sin and the forgiveness of sin is only something we have from God because of His love, His grace, and His mercy.

I back your stance. The sheep and the goats are divided by their measure of the Love of the Holy Spirit poured through them.

The Lord, Lord group give works of the flesh as account to Jesus, only to be turned away as fast as the Rich young ruler who specified being in step with the old covenant.

The sheep? Whatsoever they did for the least of these, they did for Jesus.

You might want to read the verse again, because it states a lot more than 2 commandments. Loving God and loving man is the summary of the commandments Rom 13:9, the summary does not delete the details. Its not like we can love God and worship other gods or vain His holy name and love man but commit murder or adultery, or not obey any one of His commandments. If we love Him, we will keep all of His commandments. John 14:15 1 John 5:3 Exo 20:6 It was never multiple choice or optional. Mat 5:19-30 James 2:10-12

Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. NKJV

These are the commandments of the OT. All ten of them are filled by love. If you could fulfill all ten of these, you would fulfill the law as it states.

Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. NKJV

Your best effort to fulfill all ten of them would not get you into heaven. You need His commandments to get into heaven. Look through Romans 13: 8 and you will find none that are called “His commandments.

John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. NKJV

Jesus is citing 2 different sets of commandments above. one set He calls my commandments. The other set He calls His Fathers commandments. He kept His Fathers commandments. A little further on Jesus gave us one of His commandments.

John 15:12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. NKJV

It is an entirely new commandment, not named in the OT. He gave this commandment in John 13:34 where He said he gave His disciples a new commandment to keep. So, we have the OT commandments 10 of them. Right now we have only one of His commandments. He has stated that we should keep His commandments.

John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." NKJV

If we have His commandments and keep them, we love Him. If we keep His commandments the Father will love us, and Jesus will love us. His commandments are new commandments. We only know one of His commandments now. The only other places in the New Testament where we find reference to “His commandments” is in 1 John and Revelation. If the 1 commandment we have in the gospel of John matches in another book and we are given one or more commandment(s) we will have all of His commandments. They are not part of the OT commandments.

1 John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. NKJV

Now we have 2 commandments that are new. Verse 23 we believe on His name ia one commandment. The other matches the new commandment that Jesus gave in John 13:34. Now any time that you cite the commandments you are referencing the commandments that will justify no one. The only way those commandments will help is to obey His commandments first. John 14: 21 if you die in the Spirit obeying those two commandments both the Father and Jesus love you.

I just now saw your response.
I think the thief was heavily influenced by Jesus quoting in Aramaic the first line of Psalms 22, but I cannot proof that, since he did not tell us much. We just know the results and the same might be said of most everyone. God/Jesus look at the heart of the individual and our hearts tell them. Like some who think they are saved and others who are surprised positively at the judgement, what we cannot see is what is what is being judged. Can you do anything "worthy" if you are not motivated by an unseen Godly type Love 1 Cor. 1:1-3?

The Ten Commandments are not new Mat 5:21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ Jesus elevated the Ten Commandments, did not make them lessor. Not only does He not want to literally murder anyone, He doesn't want us to even have thoughts that lead to breaking the commandment of God to thou shalt not murder and in doing so or breaking the least of these one would be in fear of sin and Judgement. Mat 5:19-30

No wonder why Jesus taught not to break the least of these commandments or teach others to break Mat 5:19 we are told to live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Something to hopefully consider.

In John 15:10, Jesus used a parallel statement to equate his commandments with those of the Father. Jesus said that he kept the Father's commandments and he was not hypocritically saying that we should do as he said, but not as he did, rather we are also instructed to follow Christ's example (1 Peter 2:21-22) and that those whoa re in Christ are obligated to walk in the same way he walked (1 John 2:6). In John 14:24, Jesus said that his teachings were not his own, but that of the Father, so he did not teach his own set of commandments. In Deuteronomy 4:2, it is a sin to add to or subtract from the law, so again Jesus did not do that.

The Father's commandments are His instructions for how to believe in the Son, such as in Revelation 14:12 those who kept faith Jesus are the same as those who kept God's commandments. Likewise, Jesus expressed his love through his obedience to the Father's commandments, so that is also the way to love one another as he loved us. The Father has given more than just Ten Commandments. In Romans 8:4-7, Paul contrasted those who walk in the Spirit with those who have minds set on the flesh who are enemies of God who refuse to submit to the Law of God.

If the man accepted discipline, God would make him sick. Then, as in Thyatira, He will put him through sickness, tribulation then death

Discipline is such that we repent. "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten, be zealous therefore, and repent" Rev 3:19
For sexual sin that discipline is normally inflammation,
the longer one does not repent, the longer it takes for the inflammation to go away when once repented.

God wants us to repent, to guard our thoughts and to use the power of self control that the Holy Spirit grants each believer.
If one dies directly because of ones personal sin, that one would not enter the heavenly city.

Yes, the righteous will have their sins forgiven, but I think we need to look closer to see what this entails.

First lets define sin:
1 John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder. Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

Sin is breaking God's law, any of the Ten Commandments we break one we break them all

What must we do with our sin
Pro 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper,
But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

We not only need to confess our sins which means a change of direction we need to forsake them
Another important point Pro 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper,

God's law is there so we can "see" our sins and not depend on our righteousness (right doing) but on God's righteousness Psa 119:172 This is the purpose of the Ten Commandments- it doesn't save us, only the blood of Jesus can save but it shows us our sin and why we need a Savior to cleanse us from our sins so He can help us overcome and be in harmony with His will Psa 40:8 Heb 8:10

Romans 3:20 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” Only found in the Ten Commandments

The teaching people should love God but don't have to keep the Ten Commandments is essentially teaching people to sin. Love is not based on a feeling, it is an action and God defined what love means and that is keeping His commandments, not breaking them 1 John 5:3 John 14:15 Exo 20:6

What we are teaching people when we don't need to keep His Ten Commandments personally written by the Authority of God Exo 31:18 Exo 32:16 is essentially teaching people to sin and be outside heaven. Jesus warned us about this situation, that sadly many choose not to believe His teachings- they confess they believe in Jesus, but they do not believe His teachings and I don't think that is going to work out so well in the end. Mat 7:21-23

Matthew 5: 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

The Pharisees also taught they could keep their rules/traditions over obeying the commandments of God and Jesus said in doing so those who teach and follow them will end up in a ditch (off the narrow path)

Mat 15:1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2 “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”

3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; (From the Ten Commandments Exo 20:13 ) and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6 then he need not honor his father [a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”

13 But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”

I pray we consider all of the teachings of Jesus and live by them Mat 4:4

Jesus' commandment is quite clear:

". . .he who does not believe in the Son is condemned already." (Jn 3:18).

When we believe in Jesus God forgives our sins and grants us repentance to life.

Repentance to life is when we decide to be disciplined or not. Those who choose discipline start obeying Jesus' commands to walk in the Spirit. They believe in Jesus and obey His convictions.

1 John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. NKJV

They are keeping His commandments and doing things pleasing in His sight. They are doing things pleasing in His sight by walking in the Spirit.

John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." NKJV

If we keep His commandments Jesus and the Father both love the person that keeps Jesus' commandments. One of Jesus' commandments is to believe in Jesus.

John 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. NKJV

Those who keep Jesus' commandments have eternal life in heaven because Jesus is the door. I don't care how many scriptures you show me defining sin. Jesus says they have eternal life in good pasture.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. NKJV

They get to the Father, who loves them, through Jesus.

When we believe in Jesus God forgives our sins and grants us repentance to life.
footnote: even the demons believe, and they shudder in terror because they know the punishment of them is complete and certain, unchangeable.
