I would decide this on a case-by-case basis by considering the following factors:
Should a man be a pastor after committing adultery?
Probably not.
Can a man be a pastor after committing adultery?
I think so, as long as he repents and his congregation knows about it. He will be unlikely to commit adultery again.
- Has he repented?
- How long ago was the adultery relationship?
- What was the duration?
- What is the impact on the congregation and the pastor's family?
- 1Tm 3:2 An overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach.
