  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kinda hilarious...

Basically, Black Lives Matter released some sort of formal statement on the fact that nobody voted for Harris in any primary and the Democrats are hypocrites....saying we aren't a dictatorship...and demanding a snap primary.

Hilarious.

Obviously, nobody should really care what BLM says at this point...they're probably just trying to get some limelight.

However, I 100% understand the sentiment...she's not exactly anyone's 1st or 2nd pick. Despite the media kowtowing and 180 on Harris...I don't know if real enthusiasm can be drummed up.

Regardless....this is pretty funny. A lot of people in this organization stole donations and were convicted of it....so I trust they at least know a con when they see one.

The Africans, Asians, Australians and Europeans on this forum are probably laughing at the US right now, as both major US parties are imploding at the moment, liberals against liberals, conservatives against conservatives, and BLM against Kamala. I like Kamala more than the other options, but man, 2024 is a crazy year. We need to take it back to 2004 or 2012.

What do you think about this, my Australian brother @Bradskii ?

This can only count in her favour among the anti-BLM crowd, right?

Oh, no. Of course not. "If that group I don't like don't like her, she must be even worse!!11!!1!1!"

Predictable and boring. Par for the course for this site.

Agreed. The US has become too polarized. It was not as polarized 20 years ago. Politicians and groups used to get along with each other back then.

Also, I am liking the Star Trek Vulcan logo. Spock is my guy. Currently on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Season 5. Getting into the Dominion War arc.

I think that the US political system is in the toilet. It'll take a generation at least to fix it.

Agreed. It might take at least a few decades to fix the US political system, assuming Russia does not nuke the world before then, or China takes over, or Jesus does not return before that time period. ;)

You're in the news and current events section.

If you don't want to discuss news and current events...kick rocks. There's plenty of other sections to complain about.

Yet Utah (your beloved State), hasn’t had a Democratic Senator in the last 47 years, doth thou feel that Democrats there are disenfranchised?

Utah is largely conservative based and has been ... this is true ... one of the reasons I moved here ... most (so far) in Utah don't agree with many of the democratic policies ... so they vote accordingly ... that's what people are supposed to do.

People (voters) should have the right to select their Presidential nominee ... the way this is being done ... that is not being allowed ... it's being by passed.

Okay, so hypothetically, if Joe had suffered a fatal heart attack betwixt the end of the primaries and the convention, would it’d’ve been “okay” to select the nominee for the Democrats from the convention (like it always had been done up until the 1960s when the primary system became popular)?

You’re complaining for no reason, you’re not going to vote for Harris in the general election, so it doesn’t matter who/how the Democratic nominee is picked.
If it was a court case, the judge would rule that you have “no standing”.

I don't see how any other process could work. Primaries have happened. People have voted. They voted for Harris as VP. One job of the VP is to replace the president if they are unavailable. There's no mechanism for a "mini-primary," though if delegates wanted to consider other candidates, it could play an advisory role. If such a thing were practical and there were other candidates.

Here's what the actual rule says about delegates:

“Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.” [Italics are mine.]

That is a recent change, replacing a rule that would have required the candidate to formally release delegates for them to vote for someone else. Obviously it's a matter of interpretation, but with Biden no longer running, delegates could in principle say that some other candidate better reflected the intent of people who voted for Biden. Even if Biden hadn't widthdrawn.

The change was made specifically to give delegates more flexibility in unusual situations. Specifcally, in 1980 it appeared that Carter was going to lose, but because of the older "robot rule" there was no way to replace him. (Sound familiar?) The change would have allowed a replacement if the delegates wanted to do so.

So even if we don't interpret the primary votes as endorsing Harris, this whole epside is not a "coup." Democrat's rules are set up specifically to allow delegates to replace a candidate that is likely to lose. Republicans didn't make a similar change, so their delegates are still bound.

Of course in practice this is mostly irrelevant, since there are no other candiates.

I been hearing the black lives matters is an left extremist group. So, I think this is a good thing. Also, most black lives protesters. Weren't in the black lives matter clubs. I'm hoping both parties get away from what extremes on the left and right want.

It just reveals how out of touch elite Dems are with reality. So long as the candidate ticks certain DEI boxes the rest doesn't matter. Its a bit like how Wokism overtook some corps like Bud and Gillette. They completely misread their own customer base and pushed the DEI ideology and it backfired.

But it also shows how incoherent Leftist ideologues are in that their own ideology causes them to not only be out of touch with reality and cause divisions with mainstream society but this also leads to divisions in their own ranks with BLM now in conflict with someone they should be supporting. The same thing has happened with the infighting within the LGBTIQ+ community and the incoherency of groups like Queers supporting Hamas.

I think enough time has gone by for people to see through the false narratives and ideology that in the end they will reject the Woke Left. The best way is to keep to the facts, to reality as to what Harris has actually done and the words that come out of her own mouth.

I think if Harris and the elite Dems and media try to hoodwink and gaslight everyone this will only make it worse. She may be in a honeymoon period but once officially selected as the presidential candidate she won't have her minders and tele prompters helping her and we will see the real Karmala Harris.

At least with Trump you get what you see. Whereas people really are sick of politicians claiming to be good and changing like chameleons to suit the circumstances in a desperate bid to fool people and hold power is a cpmplete turn off for most people.

But this is what progressive ideology does. It tries to recreate history, people, and reality through words and narratives with the Leftist media as their tool. But like I said people are beginning to see through this.

They're going a complete make over on Harris and they'll make her appear like a reasonable thinking moderate. She's probably pick as a Vice as moderate of a Dem that she can find.

We might be, if America's problems were likely to stay only America's problems. Unfortunately, American dysfunction ends up affecting all of us, so we're not laughing.
