  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello folks. I am not a Messianic Jew, nor a Jew, though I appreciate Jewish culture, and my Jewish brothers in God. This is a proposal for any Messianic Jews who have non-Messianic Jewish friends or acquaintances. Jews worship the same God as Christians, YHWH. However, the second Person of the Trinity is missing from the Jewish faith: Jesus. One can worship God the Father, but one can not approach the Father without going through His Son, Jesus Christ, as stated in John 14.

The challenge: Try to talk to at least one Jew about the Gospel of Christ and the beatitudes. :) Hopefully, through the grace of God, that the Jews convert to Christianity, or Messianic Judaism. Witnessing to non-Christians is important in these days before the Great Tribulation. Matthew 28 discusses how the Jewish folks denied Jesus, and only until the Jews accept Jesus, that Christ will return.

Verse
Matthew 28:37-39 (NKJV): “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

John 14:6 (NKJV): "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"

Hi Alex,

That happens all the time now in Israel in particular - nowadays it is estimated that there are about 20,000 Yeshua believing Jews living in Israel; historically that is a massive number, yet still only 0.1% to 0.4% of the Jewish population living in Israel. These believers do not refer to themselves as 'Christians' as that is a very contaminated term to Jews because of nearly 2000 years of persecution by 'Christianity'. In Acts those believers were called 'followers of the way' (Acts 9:2) ... 'Christian' is a term initially coined by non-believers.

These Yeshua believing Jews face severe discrimination by their fellow Jewish countrymen; they have to operate discretely, although some are brave and do street-sharing.

Are you aware of this YouTube channel that hosts Messianic street-sharing clips in Israel? The well-known organization 'One For Israel' is another entity with a host of activities and (OFI) fascinating testimonies online.

Be blessed !!

Let us get that 0.1%-0.4% to 100%, my brother. I will check out the Messianic street preaching videos. We need to introduce as many Jews to Jesus as possible, cos we do not know the hour of Christ's return. Do you have any Jewish friends in Australia, where you reside? Tell your Aussie Jewish friends about Jesus, and how He died for our sins.

I have Jewish friends, though not in Australia - not many Jews live in my area. I've reached out to them, but you have to realise Yeshua believers are normally perceived by Jews similar to how Jehovah's Witnessses/Mormons are treated by mainstream Christianity - they're the 'enemy'.

Mission / witnessing to Jews in Israel is most effective by fellow (Messianic) Jews - the country is very hostile to Gentile missionaries who are seen as aiming to destroy the cultural and religious identity of the nation. I've quite literally read about 'mission to Jews' being described as a spiritual Holocaust.

When witnessing to Jews/Muslims/Buddhists/Hindus prepare yourself by being able to explain why Yeshua exactly had to die in order for God to be able to forgive any sins ...

Be blessed!

Wait what? Preaching the Gospel to Jews is a form of holocaust? I have never preached to a Jew before, but if possible, I will be careful when preaching about Yeshua. I would start with Psalm 22 and then connect it to Matthew.

Psalm 22:16-18 (NIV): "Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment."

Yeshua in the Old Testament Devotional:
Yes, because in the past most Christian missionary efforts to Jews encouraged them to ditch typically Judaism-defining customs and rituals (e.g. circumcision, Sabbath observance, etc.), thus deleting the very cultural and religious identity of Jews as a group. Recall that many Medieval conversions in the past were forced, that the Nazis in World War II drew inspiration from Martin Luther's antisemitism (Luther called for the burning of synagogues); so the collective memory of Jews on Christianity is very, very bad. As a random unknown Gentile individual with 'good' intentions that hurdle is hard to overcome, but Messianic Jews don't have that problem among their brethren.

Most Western-style Christians are unaware of the Jewish religious context in which Yeshua, the founding Apostles and all those 1st century CE Jewish believers in Yeshua lived, and thus partially unaware of the message in the Gospels, Paul's letters, the meaning of Torah, etc.

Even using the term 'Old Testament' is offensive when conversing with Jews - and rightly so, because Yeshua also never referred to the OT like that - the proper term is Torah, Prophets and Writings (= Torah, Neviim and Ketuvim = T-N-K).

I will get back to this tomorrow, but yes, so-called "Christians" in the past mistreated the Jews, and were not following Yeshua's words of loving thy neighbor. Christians must treat people with dignity, not hellfire and brimstone.

But hey, have a good night brother. I will get back to this in around 8 hours or so.

I have very mixed feelings about this, I personally don't think out and out proselytising is appropriate. What I do think is appropriate is living a life of such love and kindness and gentleness and goodness, that you are a blessing.

Amen to this. I try to show love to others as well, and have not proselytized anyone that much yet, and have never proselytized a Jew before, cos there are not many Jewish folks in my area, plus I am not that good with scriptures, yet. But yes, gentleness and kindness > preaching.

Last year, I participated in an activity at the Beijing Jewish synagogue, not as Messianic, but only as Noahide (son of Noah). I didn't lie, I just used strategy. I had the opportunity to date a Chinese Jewish lady, but I dare not play the Messianic card. Jews are more sensitive to Messianic. Later, I couldn't attend the activity because I didn't have an international passport and I was not a born Jewish.

Agreed. I don't believe in proselytizing either. 99.9% of the time, it just falls on deaf ears.

I do agree also. There could be a slim chance that proselytizing works, but it is better to show our Christian faith through our actions instead of words.
