No one quite knows what the process of picking a new nominee would be if Joe Biden did step aside – but many Democrats say that any process is likelier than ever to quickly end with Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee.

The informal conversations about how a fight to replace Biden at the top of the ticket would play out have been raging for weeks behind the scenes. But uncertainty about the process has been so unclear it’s given multiple Democrats – even those with serious concerns about Biden – pause about coming out against the president’s candidacy, given that what comes next could be even messier.

It should also be noted:
California Governor Newsom and Michigan counterpart Whitmer—who were both floated as possible replacements for Biden on the ticket—have told party leaders they would not be interested in being Harris' No2, according to The Hill.

Given that Harris has some popularity issues (even within her own party), and given that the two governors who are more popular with their party have stated that they have no interest in playing 2nd fiddle to Harris, it seems like the DNC rallying around Harris could be a strategic blunder and perhaps they should just let Newsom (or maybe even someone like Jared Polis from CO) leap-frog her and take the top spot on the ticket.

On the scale of "VPs who you could see as P", Harris strikes me more as being toward the Dan Quayle end of that spectrum.

What about the people (democratic voters) what do they want? Seems to me they are being disenfranchised ... in that they wanted Biden ... do they still? What do the democratic voters want? Seems to me the democratic elites and democratic politicians are making the decisions and not representing the democratic voters ... of which it is their duty to do!

The DNC has already done that at the primary.

The Democratic Party will select its presidential nominee during a virtual roll call held before the in-person 2024 Democratic National Convention, which will take place from August 19-22, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois.

Their votes have long ago been predetermined.

I thought the media chose who they wanted. Sad RFK jr can't debate. The reason I say this is because I was upset the media was giving Trump all the air time when I was a Cruz guy. Whatever happened to Yang I liked what he had to say.

Anybody but Harris would need to start at square one funding-wise. Starting a whole new campaign 3 months before the election is a recipe for diaster. At least there is continuity with Harris.

I won't even consider the Democrat party, even with all the stuff with Hillary I would prefer her over Harris. Is the funding for the Independent vote because I'm sure most are locked into their party?

Tomorrow is national ice cream Day, a perfect day for Biden's to step down.
What’s this?
Now he’s not even allowed to try and finish his term?
If he makes it retroactive to Jan 20 2021, 45 can stay 45.

Regarding Joe's replacement, I don't think we'll get a picture of people's true preferences until Joe announces that he leaving the race. Joe could endorse a candidate....or he may not. Either way, the delegates at the convention would ultimately decide who would be the nominee in an open convention...an event that has not happened since '68.

I think the upper echelon of each of the parties decides and then directs the media to propagate it ... the left leaning media propagates for the democrats the right leaning media propagates for the republicans. This is why it is important to have public free speech forums.

Two things with RFK (opinion) ... he should have run as an independent from the get go .... and his selection for VP wasn't the greatest.

I do agree that they excluded him from debating ... lack of providing him secret service protection from the beginning was not right either.

None the less ... we will see how this plays out ???

...now that Joe has anounced is departure from the race, let's see what the polling data says this week.......
