DOJ says there's nothing that doesn't match the transcript. If it's embarrassing, then releasing it is not “in service of legitimate oversight or investigatory functions, but to serve political purposes that should have no role in the treatment of law enforcement files.”
What else would the DOJ say?

And the people, like Garland, sitting in front of Congress claiming it to be accurate also claim that not even they have seen it.

I want my Congressional Representatives see it on my behalf.

I'm worried about our National Security. Very very very worried.

We were told Joe Biden is unfit to stand trial, then we were told he is perfectly fit to run the office of Presidency but he can't make it through a 15 minute speech...

As a voter I'll tell you right now I'm voting for the one who EVERYONE agrees is fit to stand trial.

But as an American, I'm looking at a nation falling apart at the seams (we apparently just took down a terrorist cell that spanned 3 cities who were "fully vetted" illegals set loose on our country by our own government) - our national security is at stake here. We are in real danger and need to know if the man in the Oval Office even knows what is going on...

If Biden needs to go now instead of waiting for the election we need to know. Our nation is at stake.

Stop playing games with it. It's not a game. It's the nation for goodness sakes. 300 million lives.

Hur did NOT say Biden wasn't fit to stand trial.

He said Biden would make a sympathetic defendant that no jury would convict.

Whether that opinion is right or wrong, who's to say? But that was Hur's opinion. His opinion was not that Biden wasn't fit to stand trial.

The audio recording must not match the transcript or either it’s very embarrassing for Biden otherwise why not release it?
Much like everything Biden does, it's probably got embarrassing moments...but I don't think it's a good precedent for highly partisan congressional members to be requesting access to law enforcement content (that was likely done under specific disclosure agreements) simply as a means to "dunk on" the other side.

And the decorum of congressional members has sunk to the levels where I don't necessarily trust the more partisan ones to get their hands on sensitive info because I'd fear they'd use it for a 20-second soundbyte on the show of their "media ally of choice" or post it on their social media accounts.

If you consider all things, and look at the likes of Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Green, AOC, Ilhan Omar, Matt Gaetz, Rashida, Tlaib, Jim Jordan, etc....

Do you really trust them to keep important secrets over " accidentally-on purpose letting some things slip" when it's convenient "for the likes"? I certainly don't.

I, for one, have a sincere appreciation for the days when the US House had Paul Ryan on the right, and Nancy Pelosi on the left. I may not have agreed with all of their respective political positions depending on the topic, but we didn't have to worry about them pulling the petty kind of nonsense we see today. They were both professionals about their job (which is more than we can say about a lot of the current lot that's in congress)

If Bidens dementia is so far progressed that no jury would convict him this is rather the definition of not fit to stand trial - so what on earth makes you think this same person with apparent and advanced dementia can handle running the country?

He's starting WW3 for goodness sakes... Can he mentally handle this?

I have the right to call upon my representatives to take whatever steps necessary to find out, and hearing the audio is a step in that direction.

Hur did not say that. Why make that up? Hur declined to bring charges because he could not win. Many of the classified docs were written by Biden and he likely felt that he could bring them home and store them, LIKE REAGAN DID before him.

In regards to the idea that Biden shared classified information with the ghost-writer, Hur wrote this:
"But the evidence does not show that when Mr. Biden shared the specific passages with his ghostwriter..."

In fact, Hur's report repeatedly says "the evidence does not support" which is why he ended with: "For the foregoing reasons, we conclude that no criminal charges are warranted in this matter.

The nation is not falling apart! The trash-talking of America by some on the right really goes overboard.

Our economy is the envy of the world. Job numbers are wonderful!

The May jobs and unemployment report is out today, and it shows a continuing strong economy. The Biden Administration’s robust and durable track record on jobs and unemployment is breaking records, putting up some of the best results we’ve seen in half a century......
The White House took a justified victory lap, with President Biden noting “unemployment has been at or below 4% for 30 months—the longest stretch in 50 years.”

If some are thinking that America is falling apart, it is in their own minds. I think it may be wishful thinking in order to boost Trump up. Or some may see that it is at risk because of the rise of Trump. World leaders, unless they are autocrats, are dreading the idea thap will return.
World view of the US got better under Biden.

The election of Joe Biden as president has led to a dramatic shift in America’s international image. Throughout Donald Trump’s presidency, publics around the world held the United States in low regard, with most opposed to his foreign policies. This was especially true among key American allies and partners. Now, a new Pew Research Center survey of 16 publics finds a significant uptick in ratings for the U.S., with strong support for Biden and several of his major policy initiatives......

Congress doesn’t always get what it wants from the Executive branch simply because the Executive Branch is co-equal, (and thus not subservient to Congress). So then it would force Congress to petition the Courts to make the Executive Branch comply, but the Courts would likely demur, citing the Separation-of-Powers Doctrine, unless Congress can come up with a compelling reason beyond, “we wanna see it for ourselves”.

It makes for fun Political Theatre, and allows for massive bloviating on all sides, but not much more.

If we have a president who is not competent to stand trial we have a right to know.
And that's going to be ascertained/determined by congressmen listening to an audio recording? (for which they already have transcripts)

The judicial branch is the branch that would make that kind of determination if/when something ever went to a trial of some sort.

Let's just be honest about it, they either want to....
A) use it to make some "sleepy Joe" references (for which, just pull a few from the hundreds of hours of audio/video that you can find on youtube of him speaking)
or they want to
B) find some minute, insignificant transcribing typo or "discrepancy", and then describe it in a way that abstracts it so that they can pretend it invalidates the whole thing and use it as a basis for reopening the matter or for furthering some wider narrative about the justice department.

Either way, it's political theater.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, have threatened to hold Garland in contempt of Congress over the Justice Department's failure to produce the records. Last month, they set Monday, April 8, as the deadline for Garland to comply.

Congress has a duty to oversee the Executive Branch.

That's odd. Why would they not turn it over? I thought the investigation was clearly finished. It's a discussion regarding Biden's crimes regarding his taking of classified documents, and sharing them with unauthorized people for profit.

Why would Garland want to hide that?

I don't mean to drift off topic, but Garland has to be one of the most corrupt heads of DOJ in US history. This man has sent FBI to intimidate parents at school meetings. We didn't even send the FBI to shut down lootings and riots across the nation during 2020 but in the moment parents became concerned about the education of their children....they were labeled domestic terrorists and FBI agents were reassigned from chasing down actual terrorists, pedophiles, and human traffickers to babysit some public servants scared of a little criticism. We're supposed to believe it has nothing to do with the educational agenda pushed by his son in law's company that got tens of millions of dollars to do student surveys and suggest CRT, social emotional "education", and queer theory for kids.

Garland has been a partisan hack from day 1 and a disgrace to the DOJ.

Congress doesn’t always get what it wants from the Executive branch simply because the Executive Branch is co-equal, (and thus not subservient to Congress).

It's Congress' job to investigate the executive branch....especially when the executive branch won't investigate itself. Maybe you recall a little time in history called the Trump presidency where the president was investigated by the FBI for multiple years...at who's request do you think that was? The president's?

There's really no good reason to withhold anything if this investigation is over. Anything on the documents that's discussed can be redacted.....and we already know the president is guilty of the crime.

1. We know he took the documents deliberately. They're of a personal nature and he intended to use many of them in his biography.

2. We know he tried to return them quietly by having his lawyers pick them up from his office before Congress could investigate him.

3. We know he shared them with his biographer, someone completely unqualified to share state secrets with, for his biography for profit.

Maybe you believe the special prosecutor's assessment that nobody would convict Biden because he's too senile....or maybe you don't. Regardless, it's a story the media seems to have convinced the general public to largely ignore so it's hard to see a reason to deny the request. It's not as if his approval can get much lower....

What's the harm?

From DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC)
“Because the committees have the transcripts of the special counsel’s interviews, the needs the committees have articulated for the recordings are plainly insufficient to overcome a privilege claim grounded in these important separation of powers concerns,” according to the memo.

“The audio recording will not reveal any information relevant to the committees’ stated needs that is not available in the transcripts.”

It's obvious why the GOP committee members want the audio....to edit and manipulate for their own political propaganda.

In any case, the OLC argues the committee has no legal standing:

“For nearly seven decades and across presidential administrations of both parties, the Executive Branch has taken the position that the criminal contempt of Congress statute … does not apply to Executive Branch officials who do not comply with a congressional subpoena based on a presidential assertion of executive privilege,” according to the memo.

“Consistent with this longstanding position, no U.S. Attorney has pursued criminal contempt charges against an Executive Branch official asserting the President’s claim of executive privilege.”

This is destined to be as consequential as the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas or eating salad slowly.
Sad trombone.

Republican effort to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in inherent contempt of Congress falls short

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican, forced the vote, which she has been threatening in recent weeks, warning that if Garland didn't comply with a subpoena for the audio recording of an interview concerning President Biden's handling of classified documents, that she would move forward with the tool, which has rarely been used, especially in modern times.

Luna initially intended to bring up a resolution that could have resulted in Garland being taken into custody, but opted to move forward with the daily fine approach amid pushback from her GOP colleagues.

In a 204 to 210 vote, four Republicans voted with all Democrats to oppose the measure.
