The Republican candidate said in a rally that inflation is at 30% (it's 3%) and that solar-powered planes couldn't fly in the dark.

Commercial drones, including those used in the military in our defense, are hybrids or solar-powered with battery packs.

A solar drone with a battery pack can go as long as 25 days. With a larger battery it could conceivably go indefinitely.

They are silent and efficient. Commercial planes are being researched.

A drone is an unmanned aircraft that has a negligible weight. Not remotely the same thing as a commercial flight which must carry hundreds of people and baggage.

Trump's "solar plane" rant is weird, but so is the suggestion that because we can fly unmanned, lightweight drones with a battery, this somehow translates to hope for a commercial airliner to be able to do the same.

Most people realize there is a difference between a 4,409 pound military drone and a 660,000 pound jet before you add several hundred passengers, their luggage and freight, and the sustained thrust it would need.

This quote from the article is interesting:

Asked what he thinks about a presidential candidate speaking about batteries this way, Sadoway laughed. “Are we talking about the scientific literacy of any candidate?” he said. “I question the scientific literacy of anybody who’s running for president.”

This guy sounds smart. It sounds like he realizes that politicians use "science" for their own personal benefit. "Scientific literacy" in the context of politics means little more than "I found a scientific study that supports my policy position!"

It's not 3% since the day Biden took office, which is the time frame by which Trump and the citizens measure inflation of a presidency, as Jimmy Carter's was 20%.
