Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a press release that the violence there was "abhorrent."

"I want to be clear that Los Angeles will not be a harbor for antisemitism and violence. Those responsible for either will be found and held accountable," she said.

She added that she has asked the LAPD to provide additional patrols in the area.

In videos posted on social media, protesters from both sides can be seen shouting at and physically confronting one another. Palestinian and Israeli flags were on display, and some people wore yarmulkes and keffiyehs.

In one video, an egg was thrown at a pro-Palestinian demonstrator and bear spray appears to be deployed.

In another, protesters can be heard shouting "long live intifada," using the Arabic word for an uprising or resistance movement.

Police in riot gear cleared the area in front of the synagogue, and officer Im told CNN that the situation was "pretty calm" hours later.

California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the clashes in a post on X: "There is no excuse for targeting a house of worship. Such antisemitic hatred has no place in California."

Dang, this sounds scary. Prayers for the victims in the synagogues, and for all other victims of religious persecution. Los Angeles is not 1940s Germany, and the LAPD should find and arrest these perpetrators immediately. Sounds like the End Days will be here within this century, potentially in the next few decades, or maybe within the the next few hundred years at the latest. It is getting late here, but I will pray for the synagogue.

2 Timothy 3:1-6 (NKJV): "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

A shout out goes to the local Persians who came out to protect the Jews and the synagogue... Good on them..

Sad the government has allowed these pro Hamas rioters to get to this point. If we had actually enforced the law at the colleges and not let it be a free for all against Jews it wouldn't be escalating like this...

This is a very disturbing event and I can say it's anti-Semitic. And I don't use that word lightly. What is happening in Israel and Gaza have nothing to do with the Jews in LA.

To protest at their place of worship and draw equivalency between Israeli actions and American Jews is rooted in a form of bigotry. Guilt by association. The pro-Palestinian side no longer care about national and racial distinctions. Their main purpose was to target the Jews in general.

Disgusting group of "protestors", at this point Ioathe to even call them that. Agitators and provocateurs more suit them.

God bless those Persians who support their Jewish neighbor.

Even in Israel, there are Arab Christians that stand for Israel

Video Summary:

In Nazareth (Israel), Arab Christians are actively promoting peace and unity with their Jewish neighbors, offering support and a message of coexistence amidst conflicts. Pastor Saleem, who used to harbor hatred towards Israel, experienced a life-changing transformation and now leads efforts to build bridges of peace. He emphasizes that their vision is to be peacemakers, creating a new generation free of hatred and promoting understanding among Muslims, Jews, and Christians. Their humanitarian aid center serves as an example of their commitment to peaceful co-existence. Despite being a minority, these Arab Christians are not just bystanders but active participants, standing as a testament to the enduring spirit of brotherhood in times of peace and conflict alike.

There is a significant Persian Jewish community in Los Angeles. They were also involved in counterprotests at UCLA. 'Tehrangeles' is very near the UCLA campus.

Wow, that is interesting. First found out about Persian Jews right after receiving your reply. :) I have a fondness for religious minorities, such as brown Jewish folks or Christian Arabs, as these folks break the mold in order to bring peace between their religion and ethnicity.

Info about Persian Jewish Communities near Berkeley, CA:

Clash of cultures .... fueled by the war escalating violence ... this is not peaceful protest ... peaceful protests are not suppose to include violence and/or destruction of property ... those doing so are committing crimes and should be arrested and charged with whatever crimes they committed.

Honestly, while ugly, this is being blown out of proportion. There was no destruction of property, and (despite OP headline) no "synagogue attack".

"There were several physical altercations between the two groups protesting, which resulted in two reports of battery. Also, one arrest was made for having spiked post at a protest. This individual was cited at West Los Angeles station and released," the statement said.

There's the sum total of the criminal activity, for this event that happened a week ago.

so ... are you saying the media is lying about it - saying there was violence when there wasn't any? Were you there?

My statement about destruction of property was in the context of what a lot of time happens with these so called "peaceful protests" (not necessarily this specific one)

In videos posted on social media, protesters from both sides can be seen shouting at and physically confronting one another.
physically confronting one another ... this is not peaceful. Not all who did this were arrested ... how many did this ... we do not know.

No, I'm saying there were two police reports of battery, and footage of protestors and counterprotestors each getting physical with each other or throwing things. I literally quoted those parts of the article.

" (despite OP headline) [there was] no "synagogue attack"."
I would agree the headline is somewhat misleading .... however it is clarified in the article.

A violent clash took place outside a synagogue in Los Angeles on Sunday, as pro-Palestinian demonstrators were confronted by pro-Israel protesters.
News entities are always trying to get eyeballs and will create headlines for the purpose of drawing eyeballs.

I would define a violent clash as a form of attack, though not a terror attack. Battery and egg throwing on both sides is sickening. This stuff has gotten worse over the past few years, so yes, the times are getting worse, and antisemitism is on the rise in 2024.

Clarification quote from you:

"A violent clash took place outside a synagogue in Los Angeles on Sunday, as pro-Palestinian demonstrators were confronted by pro-Israel protesters."

News entities are always trying to get eyeballs and will create headlines for the purpose of drawing eyeballs.

Except the Jews weren't demonstrating. They were going to an event being held at a local synagogue...

Because the pro Hamas wing of the Democratic party didn't like the Jews or their event, they decided to go and protest people going to the synagogue.

The anti semitic protesters sprayed pepper spray at people trying to protect the entrance to the synagogue, at this point trying to keep the protesters out.

That was the point "clashes" began, because by now lots had come out to protect the Jews and the synagogue.

So the lie is this narrative that there were two groups demonstrating... There was only ever one group involved in demonstrating against anything and it wasn't the Jews.

If you want to know, the event that was held at the synagogue was an event about Jews buying property in Israel. (It was a real estate event). That's what was being protested, and the Jews in attendance were attacked by protesters and had to be protected by locals.

Certainly there were Jewish counterdemonstrators there, just as the OP article stated. There's more in the OP as well.

Someone else mentioned the Persian Jews. They came from a different neighborhood entirely to counterprotest. Just as they formed part of the non-student pro-Israel counterprotest at UCLA.

They were soon met by the counter-protesters and the two groups clashed, with shoving and punches being exchanged.

[According to police] "There were several physical altercations between the two groups protesting, which resulted in two reports of battery. Also, one arrest was made for having spiked post at a protest. This individual was cited at West Los Angeles station and released," the statement said.

That contradicts the eyewitness accounts and reporting we've already seen.

Attempting to disrupt the activities of temples, synagogues, or places of worship shouldn't be tolerated, regardless of the political implications.

We are experiencing pushing and pushing back ... ultimately it will end with being an inside job (the unification of church and state).... remember Judas ... he was in Christs "inner circle" and betrayed Him.

Going to be quite chaotic until the Lord returns. People would be wise to get out of the big cities if at all possible.
