  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Another day in America. Nothing new under the sun. Europeans are laughing at us, cos people could have a fighting chance to outrun a knife attack in Paris, but not a fighting chance to outrun a supersonic projectile. Also, gun violence is way less common in Western Europe compared to the USA in North America.

Why even post this mass violence news anymore on the forums? It gets old real quick, cos America will sadly never change until Jesus returns.

This fatalist attitude helps no one.
Do you believe in eschatology, specifically the Second Coming of Christ? I do, and there are signs of His return. But, that is for the End Times section.

People have been saying that there are signs of Christ's return since His ascension. I ascribe to the idea that we will know neither the day nor the hour of His return and should live every day as if it will be simultaneously tomorrow and ten thousand years from now. Abdicating all responsibility for the world simply because you think you've seen signs of the Second Coming is irresponsible in the extreme.

That is true, people predicted the end for almost twenty centuries. We will never know the hour of Christ's return. I do try to be green and stuff, as the Bible also warns us about harming the environment. But, there is nothing you or I could do to stop the gun violence. It is up to the politicians, and as of now, the politicians do not seem to care. So, we must just be vigilant.

yes, but how many people ACTUALLY die in true mass shootings with no cause very few comparely. At this point the cat is "out of the bag and not only do people want to try to ban the "wrong" guns most of the time, but at tis point not only is there not a snowball's chance in Tampa that they could get anywhere close to all the guns off the street, but I have a feeling if they were foolish enough to try there would be more death that way than there already is.

Yeah, so we should just give up on this issue. Nothing will change, and we should just live out our lives. I do not feel as much anymore about these shootings, and have become desensitized to them.

I have at least one idea, but we would have to be VERY careful to do it right.

In 2040, the Euphrates river is expected to dry up, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources, due to dryer climates from anthropogenic global warming. The Bible says in Revelation that the Euphrates will dry up in the end times. Seems that human caused global warming might be one of those signs of the times that we are living in. So, we might be just a few decades off from the end times. So, is there anything we can do between now and even 2100 (60 years after the river is expected to dry up) to change things when it comes to reducing violence? Probably not, cos we live in a fallen world. Get back into Revelations, brother.

I have heard things, such as give employees or teachers guns, so that the employee can shoot the gunman down, however, that could be risky, and scare customers off, and only exacerbate the issues.

If a gun control advocate depicts gun owners as violent people who will kill others over not getting their way that would clearly be unacceptable but here this is.

I think the tipping point was sandy hook. If an entire elementary school full of dead children can't change things, nothing can.

Agreed 100%. Nothing can change in America, and nothing has since 2012. Luckily, my parents and I go to Europe, and the gun violence there is really low, and the continent seems pretty peaceful compared to North America. I do live in a safe city in the US, thankfully.

Abandoning hope for significant changes in US gun laws however is accepting reality.

yes I support that, but my idea was actually to somehow some way encourage people to say something when they suspect a person may be a danger and actually act on it The risk there is the way the law is set up you do not want people claiming that because they do not like someone and just do not WANT them to have a gun. My idea would be if two unrelated people ( would not need to be unrelated to the person but unrelated to each other say an employer and a family member ( where the two people would not be basically working togather OR if one person reported something and they had some kind of proof such as a text to say that yes this person is a danger the police could look into it.

In as far as scaring customers off if the weapon is concealed they do not have to know and heck even if it is openly carried unless someone is being a threat they would have no reason to fear the gun.

20 out of more than 500? A few percent. Why even cancel class? Refuse to live in fear!
