  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

After losing one of our presbytery to cancer we may lose another. Please pray.

After we lost one of our presbytery a few months ago to cancer now another member of our presbytery is in Florida with heart issues. I don't know much about what's going on but they're receiving speciality care in Pensacola Florida for heart issues. He may possibly need surgery. Will update you guys as our Elder updates us. Thank you for your prayers.
I prayed for this second church member, that this man will be saved, and that the surgery goes well.

Ok so it's not his heart. I just got an email from my elder and its much worse. He has cancer as well the doctors in Florida found out he has leukemia and they're sending him to a cancer center in Georgia for chemo treatment. Hopefully the chemo is a success.

My grandmother though has had leukemia though since I was in high school it's now almost 20 years later and she's still alive and doing well. Her leukemia isn't doing well though she might pass away within the year but she is also almost 95 years old and has lived a very full life. I'm hoping the best for him as well and a long life with leukemia like my grandmother got.

So I got an update from our Elder. He spoke to his wife on the phone today since he was very weak and couldn't talk on the phone but doctors have identified what kind of cancer he has he has acute myelogenous leukemia a very bad type of cancer. However, there is good news. He is responding well to chemotherapy so far and apparently 99.6% of his cancer cells carry the Q16 marker which apparently is very beatable. I'm not a doctor I'm just passing on the news that our Elder sent to everybody in our congregation today. This sounds like good news anyway and I'm glad he's responding well to his chemo despite being weak. Please continue to pray for him and hopefully he will be able to come home soon. I'm sire he doesn't like being all the way in Georgia very much.

So I was just updated on his condition, he just last night contacted our Elder and let him know that they just started his second set of chemotherapy. His first set was very successful and they expect him to be able to go home on Friday. Thank you for praying for him and time will tell if his cancer comes back but right now it appears to be in remission.

Fantastic news!

Exactly! It seems to be so right now at this point he is doing quite well. I should be seeing him back at church in a few weeks when my Elder also gets off of vacation. He needs time to recover and get situated at home but both should be back at church very soon.

Yeah my wife just needs to get a Sunday off soon so we can get to attending Church to see them. But they'll be even rarer now that she's working full time. We're lucky if we get to attend Church once or twice a month most months.

She starts full time hours next week I believe. I think this weekend is her last time off of part time hours. So... I'm hoping to be able to see them both in person soon.

In the End Times, the world will try to keep us away from God, by throwing distractions at us, or forcing people to work longer.

Yeah, our church is also an hours drive away so even when my wife wasn't working at Walmart we couldn't attend every week because of the distance. I'm like best friends with our Elder and he has been trying to understand our lack of attendance it was actually his idea that she start working in the first place so he understands about her job but he also has concerns about us not being able to attend so much because it affects our growth as Christians. He wishes that we werent so far away and that most of his congregants weren't middle aged because they could pick me up and bring me to church while my wife works. But many of them don't have the time or the money to drive 2 hours to pick me up and 2 hours to bring me home (there and back) and he is far too busy running the whole presbytery to do it himself or he would.

So yeah he tries to understand but at the same time, it's concerning. She can quit her job and we can go back to government help again but, we still wouldn't be able to attend every week because of the distance and she really enjoys working and contributing to the household for once. When we lived off of my check she hated mooching off of me and my mom hated her "taking advantage of me" work is a distraction I agree but imo it's a necessary distraction that was my elders idea in the first place.

You might want to find a closer church.

You might want to find a closer church.

The closest PCA church to us aside from the one we attend in Canton is in Watertown which is even further away than Canton from us. It is about 2 and a half hours away vs 1 hour. Our small town really has nothing. There are PCUSA churches a tad closer in Potsdam which is about 10 minutes closer than Canton but I really wouldn't want to attend a PCUSA church due to how liberal they are.

I've considered moving to Potsdam to be closer to our church or back to Canada because there are several good conservative reformed churches in Cornwall and Ottawa when my Grandparents were still alive but we've really got a really good deal on rent from my parents here. I pay next to nothing for rent and one day my parents are giving my wife and I this place so it seems kind of stupid and pointless to move. Even though this town really has nothing this town has been my home for over 30 years.

Plus like I've said before it costs a lot of money to live in Canada I'd have to save up for a long time and my wife would have to be sponsored into the country. I don't trust the rest of my living relatives in Canada to sponsor her in its best to just stay where I live and just deal with the inconveniences of my current church situation. Like i said my Elder mostly understands that work and distance have been getting in the way he just doesn't like seeing our growth being effected so much. But, not much he can do either. Just the way God has it set up.

Worst case scenario, as your church does not have a Eucharist, you can just stream church from TV and not have to drive at all. For Catholics, we can stream also, but there is more of an obligation of going physically to church.

He doesn't livestream his services. I'm not sure he knows how. He would have the money to get the equipment to do so I just think he is too low tech to figure out how to do so and nobody would probably watch anyway if he did livestream. We're a very small congregation but he does print all of his sermons every week for all congregants to read every Sunday and the sermons that we miss he has his treasurer mail to us so that we dont technically miss a sermon even if we are not physically present.

Our church generally has communion the first Sunday of every month and my wife generally tries to get that Sunday off. Walmart has an app for their employees where they can apply for time off and a team lead looks over the requests and either approves them or denies them and then a computer will do out their schedule for that week about 2-3 weeks in advance. My wife tries to put in the first Sunday of every week into the app so that we can at least get to church for communion since it is very important. If we can't get the first Sunday off for whatever reason we still try to attend at least once a month and our Elder appreciates us coming each time we can attend because he knows that my wife has a very tight work schedule and especially now that she's working full time.

He would disagree that being in church online would be basically the same thing or else he wouldn't have concerns about our attendance because like I said, we receive paper copies of his sermons every week in the mail. But he's big on fellowship and worshipping as a congregation. Oftentimes he encourages us all to worship together and basically be one big happy family.

I sometimes find it annoying but he also has a really big point I have to admit.
