I've been on disability benefits for a while after getting cancer and having a stroke that has left me partially blind and mostly unable to use my left side. At my last assessment they wrongfully stopped my benefits and I had to go through appeal. During this time they stop your money. And I don't have any family, no-one to help. I have nearly maxxed out my overdraft during this time. It takes a week to get to use the food bank and they only give you three days worth of food each time, so that's 4 days each week without food.

The food bank parcels also only contain things like pasta and sauce with some crisps and cookies, not exactly healthy or filling (my gums are bleeding I'm pretty sure I've got scurvy now.) Please advise me on the cheapest possible ways to make a filling and nutritious meal. I only have £9.36 available balance left and nothing left from my last food bank parcel. What meals can I make to make this stretch out as long as possible?

Cabbage used in soups or fried with a bit of sausage is always good. Eggs are good for protein and if you can find some inexpensive cheese to grate for an omelette. Those are both filling.

A bag of dried beans and a bag of rice are both pretty cheap (at least, here in the US), and they'll stretch pretty far. A dish of beans and rice provides protein and fiber and is pretty filling.

I second the recommendation for cabbage, and the NIH web site tells me that cabbage is a (surprising, to me) source of vitamin C.

Onions can provide a lot of flavor for not much money.

I have a couple of bean soup and cabbage soup recipes I can send your way, if you want.

I will pray for you. You might want to go to a church, and ask them for food. Some churches will offer free food. Also, frozen orange juice would provide vitamin C.
