First the PLA would have to get some troops (airborne commandos or something like that) to the government center of Taipei and then they'd have to fight off any local security/police at least. A proper conquest of Taipei by landed forces would take some time. The failed attempt to quickly take Kyiv illustrates how tricky a "decapitation operation" is and Russia had a much easier path. They could just hang out in the woods across the border pretending to be "training" until they finally charged through the border crossings and down rural roads toward the capital. China will have to come by air/sea past well defended coastal emplacements.

Besides if the USA loses Taiwan, then the Chinese will be coming for some Philippine islands. The Philippines has a mutual defense treaty with the USA, so no wiggling out of that. Could be the action will come there first anyway as the escalation is similar to what has been going on in Taiwan. Truman hesitated against the Chinese abnd kicked the can down the road. Looks like that won't happen much longer thanks to Nixon and others that started the thaw that led to China's economic break out.

Or easily. Distances are greater, there are numerous islands, and Luzon is a much larger island. And, more significantly, the Philippines has never been traditional Chinese sovereign territory.

We were an ally with Russia against Germany. That is why Korea and Vietnam were divided into two countries. Putin gets along with Bush and Trump. He even campaigned for Trump. He does not get along with Obama and the Biden administration.

China took over Tibet but that was more for the resources. The train China built is a wonder of modern engineering. The biggest problem there was the girls that went in because of the soldiers. Although the Monks put up a little bit of resistance. China military is a lot cruder than people think but they can handle pirates' and things like that.

They have re-education camps but after that criminals take on the designation of organ donor.

"Mutual Assured Destruction" was never an official US strategic doctrine.

The actual policy stated in US strategic documents was "Enduring Deterrence."
