I do find the obsession with Jews (particular the negative ones) to be weird. I frankly don't get it. They are a minor ethnic group/religion. Why so much interest/hatred? (And isn't it confusing that the same term is used for an ethnic group and the practitioners of a religion?) I find myself skipping Clapton a lot lately...
I think the interest stems from a few things.

1) From a historical perspective, they have ties to the two largest world religions (Christianity and Islam -- obviously both with different attitudes toward them, but none the less)

2) Israel (being a Jewish homeland) has a very unique place in geopolitics, in that, they've been both aggressors and the recipients of aggression (largely due to the religious conflicts alluded to in #1), as well as the fact that Israel seems to have outsized influence over much larger nations.

To put it in perspective

Would any other 9M population country have the kind of stroke within the US that Israel does, where establishment politicians from both major parties could basically be ruined by not going along with all of Israel military goals and giving pro-Israel lip service?

IE:
There's no Austrian or Swiss equivalent of AIPAC (that can make or break a person's political campaign in the US when they're running for office, and doesn't discriminate by political party) that'll drill down so far as to throw millions at trying to take down candidates in US House Races.

Sometimes I think people resent their overachieving culture.

While you guys are busy celebrating the new progressive wonderland of Mexico, perhaps stop for a minute and acknowledge this:

This is not a healthy democracy.

I try not to blame them. :)

It's tough living between the Hatti and the Egyptians.

It has less to do with that. Historically, when Jews enjoyed relatively more liberties, many were poor and illiterate, and the center of gravity was in eastern lands, such as modern day Poland and Ukraine. It was by historical happenstance that the profession many Jews were forced into traditionally in western Europe, moneylending, happened to see tremendous growth during the rise of modern capitalism.

European civilization (and civilizations in general) have a long history of scapegoating the ethnic or religious other. Not just Jews, but Travellers and Gypsies/Roma.

I'm not blaming them for anything lol.

I know their situation is rather unique. Just giving a potential explanation for the question "why the disproportionate fixation among some groups?"

"Disproportionate Influence" is always going to equate to some "Disproportionate Attention".

After 16 years beneath Angela Merkel, I can assure you all that just because a woman has the reigns of power in her hand, things don't automatically improve.
Yep. See also Margret Thatcher and Liz Truss. ‍♂️

Wasn't saying you we're. I just need to remember that their philosophical offspring arose millennia ago...
