I think the interest stems from a few things.I do find the obsession with Jews (particular the negative ones) to be weird. I frankly don't get it. They are a minor ethnic group/religion. Why so much interest/hatred? (And isn't it confusing that the same term is used for an ethnic group and the practitioners of a religion?) I find myself skipping Clapton a lot lately...
1) From a historical perspective, they have ties to the two largest world religions (Christianity and Islam -- obviously both with different attitudes toward them, but none the less)
2) Israel (being a Jewish homeland) has a very unique place in geopolitics, in that, they've been both aggressors and the recipients of aggression (largely due to the religious conflicts alluded to in #1), as well as the fact that Israel seems to have outsized influence over much larger nations.
To put it in perspective
Would any other 9M population country have the kind of stroke within the US that Israel does, where establishment politicians from both major parties could basically be ruined by not going along with all of Israel military goals and giving pro-Israel lip service?
IE:
There's no Austrian or Swiss equivalent of AIPAC (that can make or break a person's political campaign in the US when they're running for office, and doesn't discriminate by political party) that'll drill down so far as to throw millions at trying to take down candidates in US House Races.
