How can we avoid the same mistake?

If the Jews had not changed the Name of God to Adonai, they would know that YHWH is a prophecy of Christ. The Muslims, too, would know, if they didn't change it to Allah. I suppose alot of western believers, I'm counting all those false gospels as well, would know that YHWH is Christ, if they had known the meaning of the Name.

So, what is this saying? By simply not knowing the Name of God - YHWH - and not understanding it's meaning, you can be derailed off into the wrong religion.

But for us who know the Name, how can we avoid getting derailed as those outside of the faith, and get into the fold we are supposed to?

How can a Christian get derailed? We know He is God in the flesh.

In the sense that, we might have gotten this part right, but maybe not others. In that case, what are the important parts?

There are many gods in the flesh. Some do not think that YHWH is the Father of Jesus, but some other God. Knowing the meaning of YHWH, I am protected from that kind of illusions. But there might be other illusions still.

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands,
having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “
Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

John 7:16 Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. 17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. 18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

Those who are ensnared in false doctrines lack a sincere desire to serve the Lord and fulfill the Will of His Father.
They should be questioned on their commitment to do God's Will, not debate doctrine.

The only thing that really comes to mind is to be consecrated and wait for His guidance. Unless you can suggest anything that would help in this endeavour.

Here is Paul's advice by the Spirit:
2 Timothy 2:
24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

I find your response consistent with these instructions.
