The Bible makes it clear that we are "Free In Christ."
What does that mean? Does that mean we can do whatever we want? Heaven forbid!
Does it even mean we have liberty between doing A or B, and neither is morally wrong? I don't think that is the point either.
Freedom in Christ is the ability to please God.
The Bible says,
James 2:12
"Speak and act as those who are to be judged by the law of freedom."
The Law of freedom is to have the ability to do the right thing and please God.
Romans 14:23
"Everything that is not from faith is sin."
But the key is in Jesus' words where he says,
John 8:31-32
"Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”"
Why is this?
Because the Law of sin is bondage and slavery. The Law of sin is what happens to us when we do not follow the Law of God, otherwise known as the Law written on our hearts or our conscience. Our conscience condemns us.
Romans 7:7
"What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But I would not have known sin if it were not for the law."
Therefore, the law of freedom is the ability to live by the Spirit indwelling in us. That is why it is written,
Romans 8:1-2
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death."
