Ukraine's navy claims it has likely destroyed the last of Russia's cruise missile carriers operating out of the crucial Black Sea peninsula of Crimea.

In remarks made to Radio Free Europe, Ukraine's navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said the navy was currently trying to verify whether or not it had destroyed the small missile carrier "Tsiklon" on Saturday.

If confirmed, it would mean there is no longer a Russian missile carrier based out of the key peninsula, he told the outlet.

Ukraine says it may have destroyed Russia's last cruise missile carrier based out of Crimea

This conflict has caused the worst naval defeats on Russia since the Russo-Japanese war. And inflicted on them by a nation that doesn't even have a deep water navy.

Should it bear out to be true it is still puffery from the Ukraine Navy. The claim "the last of Russia's cruise missile carriers operating out of the crucial Black Sea peninsula of Crimea" is possibly specifically accurate for the ships stationed in Crimea. But Russia supposedly has one more active Karakurt class (Tucha) and two or three more launched or in sea trials now destined for the Black Sea Fleet (but I don't know where they are stationed). Russia also has 4 less capable Buyan class ships in the Black Sea Fleet that carry cruise missiles.

You have to question Russian naval capabilities since Ukraine has downed a few ships in the Black Sea. The puffery from both sides is a given.

Oh absolutely. The Russian Navy is in bad straights for sure, lack of maintenance and old tech hurts them terribly.

If you consider the truth to be "puffery" that's a pretty good clue in itself, isn't it? And yes, most of Russia's Black Sea fleet has since retreated to the far eastern shore of the Black Sea, out of range of Ukrainian missiles.

Which seems like a wise move, given the number of Russian warships lost in the war. The Russian Baltic Fleet is out of the war, since Turkey will not permit them to enter the Black Sea.

The puffery is that the Ukrainians are implying that there are no more cruise missile carriers in the Black Sea, which is inaccurate. The statement is written well to be truthful (assuming the ship was sunk) but misleading to the casual observer. It is certainly wise to relocate to safer ports.

They weren't designed for the sort of war that Putin has entered into in Ukraine. And now there's more bad news for Putin on the ground...

American ammo boosts Ukraine's defense as Russian advances stall

Putin's American assets failed him and the military aid package is now arriving and again turning the tide against the aggressors.

That is true. But the maintenance of the Russian Navy is abysmal at best and willfully negligent at times. They can barely keep ships running as it is.

I wonder if it's like the Army, where pilferage and corruption diverted resources intended to maintain and supply combat units.

As a ex Army air defender, I question Russia's air defense or their ship's defensive capabilities. Alternate scenario: (they repelled 15 drone strikes and one got through). America has done well policing the high seas, especially in the Red Sea not only can we protect our ships but others as well. I agree with the corruption in those countries including China. I heard China found water instead of fuel in their missiles. China has been battling corruption back to the dynasties or that's what their movies depict.

Depended on the dynasty, but the entrenched Chinese civil service system of scholarship and exams to qualify tended to breed corruption.

It seems the problems you mention were factors in the sinking of the Moskva (former flagship of the Russian Black Sea fleet).
Their only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov was riddled with issues. It was taken to be overhauled in 2017 and is still not finished, it is doubtful all the gremlins will have been eradicated in the process. Previously it had to sail with a tug companion for when it would break down and need to be towed back to port.
