A constitutional republic and a democracy are two different forms of government, each with their own set of principles and characteristics. A constitutional republic, such as the United States, is a form of government where the powers of the government are limited by the law, specifically by a constitution. In a constitutional republic, the citizens elect representatives to govern on their behalf. The government's powers are defined and limited by the constitution, and the rule of law is supreme. The constitution is the highest legal authority and protects the rights of the citizens. On the other hand, a democracy is a form of government where the people have the power to make decisions directly or through elected representatives.

In a democracy, the majority rules, and the minority has to accept the decisions made by the majority. In a direct democracy, citizens have the power to vote on laws and policies directly, while in a representative democracy, citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf.

The main difference between a constitutional republic and a democracy is that in a constitutional republic, the government's powers are limited by the constitution, protecting the rights of the citizens, while in a democracy, the majority has the power to make decisions, which could potentially lead to the oppression of the minority.

Yes, the USA is a constitutional republic or a democracy.

And really, it's a mix of both. Although the federal government is basically a constitutional republic, we try to put democracy into action in a wide variety of ways, and majority votes are used to decide a great many things, even (partially) in presidential elections. Under the Constitution, there's no need for each state to choose electors by majority vote, yet they all do.

The word "democracy" is not specifically mentioned in the US Constitution. However, the U.S. Constitution does establish a system of government based on the principles of republicanism, which is a form of representative government.

Supposedly they are interchangeable terms to describe our government. That being said, when parties disagree and are at war with each other the lines get blurred. IMHO. Blessings

It's an oligarchy.

Oligarchy: a small group of people having control of a country or organization.

The Constitution is an illusion and so are elections.

Nobody With Real Power Cares If You Refuse To Vote For Biden | by Caitlin Johnstone | Mar, 2024 | Medium

From the article:
"The problem is not that the wrong people keep getting elected, it’s that the elections don’t matter and voters don’t have a say."

If the Democrats cared about getting your vote they’d be trying hard to earn it. They’re not trying because they don’t care.

The unelected empire managers who actually run the US power structure also don’t care who wins the election. They know they’ll still get their murder and militarism and capitalism and imperialism no matter who gets sworn in next year, whether it’s Biden or Trump or Harris or someone else. Nobody with any real power cares about your vote.

And that’s the real issue. That’s the real point that keeps getting missed here. The problem is not that the wrong people keep getting elected, it’s that the elections don’t matter and voters don’t have a say. It’s that humanity is dominated by a murderous globe-spanning power structure loosely centralized around Washington whose actual movements and behavior have effectively zero responsiveness to the will of the electorate.

I should also add that most people who make hay over the "Republic!" side of this issue looove their citizen ballot initiative power, which is pure direct democracy.

You make it sound more sinister than it actually is. Not more dangerous than it actually is, because it really is dangerous, but it is going on in plain sight for anybody to see who cares more about his country than he cares about things like Hunter Biden's penis or Donald Trump's fraudulent business practices.

Is a dog a mammal or a pet?

This has gotten old. So old.

We are both a constitutional republic and a representational democracy.

Actually the terms are not at all interchangeable...

There was nothing our founding fathers despised more than direct democracies. James Madison wrote something in the Federalist Papers against them.

We are a constitutional republic with the government largely overstepping it and most certainly becoming more oppressive every day.
