"We would reduce carbon emissions, create many jobs, and shore up our industrial base. Sure, governments would have to commit a few billions – or tens of billions – to make it happen. But it would pay for itself many times over.

And yet, right now, plans for an EV-led industrial revolution are in full-scale retreat."

The article has a quote 'falling sales for EVs across Europe'. What is happening is a slowing of the uptake as a percentage of market share. Not reduced sales in real terms.

From here: Price Cuts, Improved Choice Required To Reignite European EV Sales

'Meanwhile, European governments have decided that battery electric vehicles will comprise about 22% of the market in 2024, up from about 18% now, and increase in roughly equal instalments to 80% by 2030.'

There is no way that a complete transition to EVs is not underway. Manufacturers realise this and production costs will fall - they will have to to outsell the new Chinese vehicles coming on the market. Those that can't compete will fall by the wayside. This is capitalism pure and simple. Sell them at a price that people will accept...or go out of business.

This ain't a niche market anymore. It's going mainstream. As a point of interest, I have a hybrid.

Yeah, hybrids seem to be the way to go, as in my area, electric cars are prone to freezing. With a hybrid, one has the option of a gas engine for cold days, or long road trips. What might be better than EVs is better public transport, and more walkable cities, as not everyone can afford a car. Even regular internal combustion cars are expensive.

People in Europe don't need as many cars, they are more of a luxury. As has been pointed out, what's happening is falling demand for new EV's, not a decline in marketshare.

Not true.

EVs are becoming very popular here. All motor manufacturers with sales in European countries already have highly developed models on sale and plans for more. What is holding back sales is nervousness about range and the current shortage of charging points in some areas. People are keen in general because of the two concerns, climate heating and fuel security. They are actually ridiculously cheap to fuel.

EVs will be the norm within a few years.
