Ex-IRS contractor who leaked Trump’s tax returns sentenced to 5 years

WaPo said:
Charles Littlejohn pleaded guilty last year to one count of unauthorized disclosure of income tax returns. Littlejohn, 38, admitted that he leaked Trump’s confidential tax information to the New York Times in 2019 and then replicated his work the next year, filtering the tax returns and financial data of thousands of wealthy Americans to ProPublica.

The news organizations published reports showing how Trump and the richest Americans for years paid little or no federal taxes. U.S. District Judge Ana C. Reyes, who handed down Littlejohn’s sentence, emphasized at his plea hearing in October that “there will be serious consequences for this illegal act.” Regardless of Littlejohn’s motivations, the judge said, “people taking the law into their own hands is unacceptable.”

Littleohn went to great lengths to accomplish this.

The only thing I can believe in is the law these days. As far as taxes are concerned all the rich do it and that's why the 1% will always be the 1%. Our politicians are the only ones who can stop the divide between the haves and the have not. If we could get our politicians to work together on tax reform and do away with loopholes and maybe favorable taxes for us serfs we might close the divide. And, the millionaires in Congress like them also.

Too bad more normal people can't be politicians, seem to be the only people who have money. We mustn't forget crony capitalism it's up to us to tell them to stop.

Let us not fool ourselves into thinking this is not about Trump, not other politicians. He went against 50 years of Presidents releasing their tax information, making up a lie that he was under an audit and could not release them.

This guy will probably spend more time in prison than Trump.

I'm not fooled. But don't blame him for not paying Taxes. See, I don't and Trump or Biden but there is no legal obligation to show tax returns.

Of course there isn't, which shows just how out of step Trump was with all the other Presidents in the last 5o years. He was the one with something to hide, and now justice is coming for him.

All I'm trying to say he had the right. If he gets prosecuted for tax evasion or any other law, hurray for the law. This includes any American including Democrats and Republicans.

His real crime was exposing the corruption of our tax codes. There's no way the 1% is going to allow that to go unpunished.

This might be the funniest sentence I've read in awhile.
It does seem comical that politicians can close the divide between the haves and the have-nots. The ignorance of both parties on fiscal and monetary policies.

It seems comical they would close the divide. Who pays for those campaigns?

Those 81,000 new agents aren't going after the "1 percent", they're going after the extra $1,000 you and I may have saved up.

Those 81,000 new agents
I wish people would stop repeating this false talking point. First off, it's not 81000 agents, but rather 81000 employees, of all types including customer service and it. Second, it's 81000 new hires over the course of ten years, the course of which close to 60000 employees are going to be leaving. And while that is still an increase in the current size of the IRS, it brings it a lot closer to historic levels, which honestly isn't even enough considering how much both the country and duties of the IRS have grown.
