To get in the EU Parliament you have to be a member. The Ukraine now has a "candidate status" and is in negotiations. Russia has Putin and so much bad behavior they will not be considered anytime soon.

Yeah, this thread should go there. Furthermore, I have found that it is very difficult to talk with people who are partisan to one of the two publicly perceived sides, as they tend to demonize their opponents, the side that they are against and refused to acknowledge nuances, that would, or could at least partially explain the bad behavior of the other side, and they deny the bad behavior of their own side, its very existence, or say that because it happened in the past, it is not important.

I assume it is the 'Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe'? Which does include Ukraine among its members, but not the Russian Federation [the UK, Switzerland, and Norway are also members, without being members of the EU which is a seperate organisation.]

That is one of the things that really burns me. I remember the 1990’s and 2000’s, when Russia was dying to be treated as part of the West, Europe, and Christendom, and our foreign policy always made sure that they were deliberately excluded; those controlling it wanted to keep Russia as a geopolitical enemy and an alternative to China as a credible danger to justify our own arms expenditures, among the other policies that carried on the Forever Wars. Both the Russian people and their government were eager to join what they perceived to be the West. I watched as our policies, expansion of NATO, which had lost all raison d’être, created a burning resentment and the Communists and Stalinists began demanding that they treat us in kind. The result of all of that? I am in a place I wish I never had to be. I hate what those politics did to my life. To say the least.

They banned Russia from the Council of Europe after 2022.
They both need European Union seats.

Good riddance to both the Russian regime and Putin in regard to the EU Parliament. Putin should be placed in shackles and chains and taken to the Hague and tried for war crimes. The west is currently holding 220 billion in frozen Russian funds which - was announced last week- will be given to Ukraine. Good that is a down payment on the two trillion they owe in reparations.
