As the world grapples with the existential crisis of climate change, environmental activists want President Joe Biden to phase out the oil industry, andRepublicans argue he’s already doing that. Meanwhile, the surprising reality is the United States is pumping oil at a blistering pace and is on track to produce more oil than any country has in history.

The United States is set to produce a global record of 13.3 million barrels per day of crude and condensate during the fourth quarter of this year, according to a report published Tuesday by S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Last month, weekly US oil production hit 13.2 million barrels per day, according to the US Energy Information Administration. That’s just above the Donald Trump-era record of 13.1 million set in early 2020 just before the Covid-19 crisis sent output and prices crashing.

In other words, big oil has been doing better under Biden compared to under Trump. So, the Republicans need not to worry about the collapse of the oil industry.

But in all honesty, we need to start reducing our dependency on oil or even cars, and devise solutions such as free public transport and develop more walkable city designs to end fossil fuel's grip on our country. Electric cars are not the silver bullet solution either, as the raw materials for EVs (electric vehicles) are sourced from the ground.

I feel if we didn't do that prices would have been high at the pumps because OPEC is cutting. This would be bad for the election and inflation. Seems this is a bad thing for climate change.

This is just one more reminder that the divisions in the US only go so far. At the top, some things don't change. Still, I'm happier with our current de facto oligarchy than the right's desire for dictatorship and tyranny.
