That's actually a good thing. How many more laws do we need?
"We don't need government to actually govern" isn't the killer argument you were thinking it would be.

This is a trend
"2023 also marks the low point in a years-long trend toward gridlock: Five of the six most unproductive first years have been since 2011."

What is the point in having representatives if they are unwilling to represent us and do nothing but protect their own interests?

Government is governing. Governing doesn't mean passing laws. By way of example, how many laws do we have vs. how many do we need?

It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood. - James Madison

As each new crime comes along, so does a law. This is the natural progression of law-making. Some old laws can probably be done away with, like letting my donkey sleep in the bath tub, but the moment somebody's donkey injures somebody while trying to get out of the bath tub then there is a law in place to assign blame/punishment or recourse to the injured party. There will never be enough laws in a civil society.

Coolidge said "I'd rather kill bad bills, than pass good ones."
Rep Ron Paul had the nickname: "Dr No" for the same reason.
Congress has no restraint. Hail gridlock!

If youre satisfied with the current set of laws we have, then yeah..... Congress should do nothing.

If nothing else, we are still in need of a budget. If you're interested in reducing the deficit and/or preventing a government shutdown, you should be hoping for a satisfactory solution. So far the House has only been able to kick the can down the road at present spending levels. And the next can is sitting in January.

(Oh, and a border deal! Senate just left town without one.)

If only there was someone to preside over the executive functions of government...

Government is governing.
And the Republicans clearly have no interest in doing that.
Governing doesn't mean passing laws.
But governing includes passing laws. The Republicans are passing nothing. Take away the naming of federal buildings and they've done less than nothing.
By way of example, how many laws do we have vs. how many do we need?
A budget would be nice, but the Republicans aren't interested in governing.

There were/was no cars, airplanes, standing army, telecommunications, trains, highways, Internet, advanced medicine, NASDAQ, factory farms, smart phones, etc. etc. when Madison was alive. His prose is flowery, but didn't age well.

Actually ... I see this as a good thing .... we already have way too many laws and a system that is convoluted by many of hem.

Do you know *how* we would get rid of excessive laws?
