Should Americans be very concerned about a cyber-attack from China?

Cyber attacks are on the rise from everywhere, and the most likely vector of attack is things you click on at home or work. Everyone needs to educate themselves on how to spot bad links and phishing attempts.

It is not just the military, and it is not just from China.

The PLA has been making cyber attacks against government sites for more than a decade, including defense related sites.
When the annals of the Ukraine war are written and finally declassified we will read a lot about cyber warfare. It's just part of the way wars will be fought. And it's relatively cheap, with potentially more band for the buck.

If China does take Taiwan I expect the first days to be thick with all sides doing cyber attacks. And maybe a chunk of that will be Chinese made computers and Cisco routers following orders from home. I wouldn't at all be surprised. Banks could go down, power could go down, airlines have issues, phones could go down, or not. Probably not. But not because we are so well prepared or hardened. Maybe more just dumb luck.

Probably no more so, than China should be concerned about cyber-attack from the US.
It will go both ways. No doubt about it. How effective? Who knows. It's a wild card.

I just hope we're not behind the power curve with China, Iran, N Korea, and Russia.

This is the DPRK at night. They can’t even adequately light their nation at night, fear not these folk.

Maybe they are reducing greenhouse gases or energy consumption. Maybe in dark mode due to our spy satellites all the while working on cyber attacks.

I think it will all come down to luck or providence. Very hard for me to predict who wins in this kind of warfare. Or what the casualties will be in being pushed back into the Stone Age.
