‘They All Got Careless’: How Falwell Kept His Grip on Liberty Amid Sexual ‘Games,’ Self-Dealing
The deposed university president secured backing by ousting critics and hiring the family members and businesses of loyalists.

The former student, a member of a band with the Falwells’ son Trey, has saidthat Becki initiated oral sex with him while he stayed overnight at the Falwell home, following other attempts to seduce him.

A close friend and neighbor of the Falwells told POLITICO that Becki confided to her about the relationship with the student. When the friend warned that Jerry would be upset to hear about it, the friend said, Becki told her that the only thing Jerry would be upset about was that he didn’t have a chance to watch her have sex with the student.

multiple former university officials and Falwell associates told POLITICO that Jerry frequently shocked them with risqué comments and, in at least two cases, showed off a photo of himself at the beach with his arms around two topless women.

One of Liberty’s most high-profile supporters, board member Mark DeMoss ... was pushed off the board in 2016 after questioning Falwell’s endorsement of Donald Trump over other Republican contenders for president.

After Falwell surprised much of the evangelical world by choosing the twice-divorced Trump, an infrequent churchgoer, over numerous Republican presidential candidates with strong religious backgrounds and evangelical ties, DeMoss made the rare move of speaking publicly about the decision. He told The Washington Post that Trump’s behavior is “not Christ-like behavior that Liberty has spent 40 years promoting with its students.”

Seven weeks later, during the next meeting of the board’s executive committee, the board’s committee members asked DeMoss to resign as chairman.

‘They All Got Careless’: How Falwell Kept His Grip on Liberty Amid Sexual ‘Games,’ Self-Dealing
The deposed university president secured backing by ousting critics and hiring the family members and businesses of loyalists.

In late October, Falwell turned on Liberty in a high-profile way, filing a lawsuit claiming that the university’s board had quickly seized on Granda’s story and forced Falwell to resign without an investigation. No board members reached out to ask him if Granda’s story was true, Falwell claimed. After he left Liberty, Falwell said in the complaint, he was defamed multiple times by Liberty, such as in an announcement about the internal investigation that said there had been a “lack of spiritual leadership” at the school.

“Certain key individuals” involved with decision-making at Liberty were “fulfilling a long-held goal” of forcing Falwell out of his family’s university, the complaint also claimed. “These individuals had engaged, or were engaged, in various illegal, unlawful, and immoral or otherwise dubious acts” that, if publicly known, “would unquestionably tarnish the reputation of Liberty University by association.”

The complaint said that because Liberty affirmed Granda, Falwell’s reputation is in tatters, making it difficult to attach his name to a new business and hurting his chances of securing a contributor role on cable news.

Poor Jerry.....maybe Hannity will give him a 2nd chance.....

After shocking many in the evangelical movement by endorsing Donald Trump over other Republicans for the 2016 presidential nomination, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. pumped millions of the nonprofit religious institution’s funds into Republican causes and efforts to promote the Trump administration, blurring the lines between education and politics.

The culmination of his efforts was the creation of a university-funded campus “think tank” — which has produced no peer-reviewed academic work and bears little relation to study centers at other universities — that ran pro-Trump ads, hired Trump allies including former adviser Sebastian Gorka and current Trump attorney Jenna Ellis to serve as fellows and, in recent weeks, has aggressively promoted Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud.

Liberty’s actions, detailed for the first time by POLITICO, suggest the university is pushing the boundaries of its status as a nonprofit organization under Section 501c(3) of the federal tax code, which forbids spending money on political campaigns.

Send your kids to Liberty, where they will get a Trump-centered education.

It's Vanity Fair, so get yourself settled in.

INSIDE JERRY FALWELL JR.’S UNLIKELY RISE AND PRECIPITOUS FALL AT LIBERTY UNIVERSITY
Jerry Falwell Jr. was the Trump-anointing dark prince of the Christian right. Then a sex scandal rocked his marriage and ended his lucrative stewardship of the evangelical education empire founded by his father. In a series of exclusive interviews, Falwell—accompanied by his wife, Becki—describes the events that led to his ouster, their fallout, and why he’s finally ready to admit he never had much use for his father’s church anyway.

...insightful and IMO a fair look into the Falwell family, including Jerry Sr.

religion poisons everything.
Why wouldn't it. God had/has no use for it either other than as a tool to be used in forwarding His teachings in scripture, (not to be confused with religion actually teaching those teachings agenda free) until all nations were free to read it for themselves.

Well that was something.

In a related note, if you haven't watched The Righteous Gemstones on HBO yet, season 2 just started. It's amazing.

Successful grifters know a lot of suckers. You'd think this would make it too obvious, but instead their fan-bases coalesced and became even more devoted.

Someone once said that the world is full of suckers who will do anything... except admit they've been suckered.

Some folks will happily double (or even triple) down on their mistake rather than admit to making it.

Falwell left Liberty in August after Giancarlo Granda, a younger business partner of the Falwell family, said he had a yearslong sexual relationship with Falwell's wife, Becki Falwell, and that Jerry Falwell participated in some of the liaisons as a voyeur.

Poolboy Giancarlo Granda has a new tell-all book -- Off the Deep End: Jerry and Becki Falwell and the Collapse of an Evangelical Dynasty -- coming out Oct 25th, as well as a documentary series -- God Forbid -- on Hulu debuting Nov 1.

It will be a good follow up after this season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Jerry Falwell Jr. accuses Liberty University officials of sexual misconduct, questionable financial dealings amid trademark lawsuit

The complaint makes the case that Falwell was being held to a standard that did not apply to other high-ranking university officials [when Jerry Jr resigned under pressure]. The complaint alleges that several other incidents were not met with the same punitive action:

  • One former University President was sued by a former Liberty employee for sexual harassment but was not removed from his position.
  • The former Dean of Liberty’s School of Divinity, the late Dr. Edward Hindson, had an extramarital affair during his time at Liberty but was not removed from his position.
  • The former provost of Liberty, Dr. Ronald Godwin, had an extramarital affair with his secretary while working at a Liberty affiliate Moral Majority, Inc., but was not removed from his position.
  • A current member of the Executive Committee has admitted to previously having more than one affair.
Unlike other university officials, the complaint alleges that Falwell was not the recipient of Liberty's "long-standing culture of forgiveness".

The lawsuit asks for monetary relief in the form of a full accounting and return of profits Liberty University made while using Dr. Falwell's name and image.

Glad to see he's pieced his life back together enough to tear everything down and name names in pursuit of money.

Usually “it’s not fair” lawsuits don’t make it to trial.

Jerry Falwell Jr. lobs attacks that will 'will rock' Liberty U 'to its core': reporter

Jerry Falwell Jr., the disgraced former head of Liberty University, is launching a new set of attacks against the institution he once ran.

Axios reports that journalist Tim Alberta is coming out with a new book in which Falwell Jr. candidly admits that his late father, Jerry Falwell, Sr., founded the university solely to be an institutional arm of the Republican Party and not to be a Christian university aimed at spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

No surprise there. Man using God to serve man's will. Same thing the Church did when it teamed up with Rome 1700 years ago and even carried on the empire until this day in a new form with it's own Caesars.

That's not surprising, but it's good he's said as much. Falwell Sr. along with Francis Schaeffer were instrumental (meaning "to blame") in forming what became the Xn right.
