  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I could see "coed" team sports. But not guys competing against gals individually - except in training. Guys have certain natural advantages statistically.

But much depends on the sport. One difference with wrestling is that there are rather narrowly defined weight classes that people compete in, so a 130 lbs girl isn't attempting to compete with a 180 lbs boy, but rather a 130 lbs boy. If a boy has more muscle mass and denser bones, that will increase his weight, making him compete at a higher weight category.

There are other factors besides just weight that are contributing to the male advantage in sports, even when controlled for height and weight.

If you peruse things like various Olympic records, that becomes pretty evident.

Just as an example:
This is an elite female powerlifter

A 5 foot 10, 330lbs sturdy brickhouse of a woman who holds the current Olympic world record for the clean and jerk of just shy of 400lbs.

A 16 year old boy who's 185lbs (and roughly the same height) holds the youth male record at 458lbs.

You see quite a bit of this in track & field events. There are high school boys who hold personal bests in those events that surpass that of world female record holders in the same event.

Isn’t this the POC play-date thread?

How is a playdate for kids of color bringing back segregation? Of course using the general definition for 'segregation' can be accurate, however segregation regarding schools means much more than just a playdate. Regardless, the right wants to segregate the boys and girls in athletics in schools, so the thought of segregation is alive and well on the right....it would seem a bit hypocritical to call this segregation.

A 130 pound boy is stronger than a 130.pound girl. Their physical makeup and muscle mass are different. There are weight categories in boxing, weightlifting and MMA too. we’ve seen what happens when biological males are allowed to compete against biological females in MMA. It’s not fair.

When I was in Jr HIgh (at a very small school) our league had a swim meet. So few competing that often the boys and girls swam at the same time.

The fastest girl in the 25 freestyle had exactly the same time as the fastest boy. BUT she was still a national age group record holder in the medley relay and I was a meh level swimmer.

Yes as things now stand some girls can compete on a purely local level. But I have to wonder, would she have put in anywhere near the level of work she did if the top thing she could get was winning a town championship? After all 2 workouts a day with no off season and coming to school with red eyes and green hair (both side effects of chlorine in the pools, at least for blonds) is worth it when you have a chance at national records or Olympic records. Not so much if placing in a high school meet is the best one can hope for.

Yes, that was off-topic as well.

I thought we did away with segregation why are they bringing it back?
This is what took the thread off topic. Look at your own off topic comment before trying to pin the blame on me.

The blaming you are doing is continuing to take the thread further off topic. Why not just stop?

Seperating people of color and the threat that resulted is the thread topic Not separating boys and and girls in sports. My post that you quoted is not off topic
From the OP:
The threat, which was emailed to the principal Chabot Elementary School in Oakland, came a day after notorious right-wing account Libs Of TikTok tweeted about the school holding a playdate for children of color.
