Special Counsel Robert Hur interviewed President Joe Biden, who participated voluntarily, on Sunday and Monday over Biden’s handling of classified documents during his vice presidency.

Biden stored classified documents from his time as vice president and as senator at his home in Delaware and at the offices of the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center. He stored them long after he had held the respected offices and before becoming president, prompting a special counsel to be appointed to probe for criminal conduct.

Good. Biden needs to be held accountable for this, even if it doesn't rate an indictment. The White House needs to keep tighter control over classified information.

It is unclear how many documents were seized by investigators and whether the size has been a factor in the length of the investigation.

Mr. Biden’s lawyers reported that they found several classified documents mixed in with other papers in a storage closet while cleaning out a Washington office that Mr. Biden used after leaving the vice presidency, but before he ran for president in 2020.

A search of Mr. Biden’s house in Delaware turned up several classified documents, including some dating back to his time in the Senate, which he left in 2008 to join the Obama administration.

The searches put political pressure on Mr. Garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate the matter, and he responded by appointing Mr. Hur.

MSNBC legal analyst Katie Phang called the interview “what people do when they’re not hiding anything.”

“I can’t describe how different this was handled by Biden compared to Trump,” agreed national security attorney Bradley Moss. “Trump never sat for an interview. His lawyers couldn’t trust him.”

“The Constitution held firm. The Government did not collapse. Riots did not break out. Almost like adults know how to handle investigations and overgrown adolescents throw tantrums and Twitter rants,” he added.

House investigators say President Biden began dispatching staff to retrieve boxes of documents months before his administration disclosed to the National Archives the discovery of improperly held classified documents, starting the same day that the Justice Department subpoenaed former President Donald Trump over his stash of classified materials.

The timeline and actions, lawmakers say, suggest that Mr. Biden’s team may have been aware he was in possession of classified documents long before Nov. 2, 2022, when Mr. Biden’s lawyer said they discovered the material and summoned the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to pick them up.

Mr. Biden did not disclose to the public that he was in possession of classified material until January 2023, when he said he was surprised about the discovery of the documents. More classified material was discovered later on at his Wilmington, Delaware home, some of it dating back to his time as a senator.

Biden special counsel report complete, under review for executive privilege

Ian Sams, a spokesman for the White House Counsel’s Office, said the review of the report is expected to be completed by the end of the week. [At some point, it will be provided to Congress and made public.]

people familiar with the matter said Hur’s findings are critical of the handling of sensitive documents by Biden and his aides, but that conduct did not rise to the level of chargeable crimes.

Hur is a former U.S. attorney in Maryland who had held other posts in Trump’s Justice Department. He took leave from his private firm to lead the Biden investigation.

While the Trump and Biden classified documents cases have some similarities, there are key differences.

Showing willful intent to mishandle national security secrets is often a key factor in charging decisions involving classified papers.

Does that count as parody? Because you know that Biden did NOT in fact strew classified documents precariously about. Perhaps you were thinking of the photos of documents that were precariously strewed about in a different place, in the bathroom and on a stage of a country club.

so we won't have to worry about Trump's silly statements and boorish behavior. We will just have to worry about WWIII and a continuing invasion of our country at the southern border.

yeah, neither option is good, but between 2016 and 2020 we didn't have multiple wars, raging inflation, and a president who can't talk.

WASHINGTON — Special counsel Robert Hur has declined to prosecute President Joe Biden for his handling of classified documents but said in a report released Thursday that Biden’s practices “present serious risks to national security” and added that part of the reason he wouldn't charge Biden was that the president could portray himself as an "elderly man with a poor memory" who would be sympathetic to a jury. - NBC News
