Protesters hit Ramaswamy campaign vehicle outside Iowa event

FOX News Digital has learned that a pair of protesters rammed their car in the back of a parked vehicle of the Ramaswamy campaign ahead of an event in Grinnell, Iowa.

If it makes you feel better, apparently the driver received "a summons for unsafe backing", since she hit the car when backing out of a parking space after lunch.

"It was reported on social media that two protesters intentionally rammed into Ramaswamy's vehicle and fled the scene. Our investigation has revealed no evidence to substantiate that information," the police department said in a statement.

It said a local resident was leaving a restaurant when she accidentally hit Ramaswamy's vehicle while backing out of a parking spot.

The police department said the woman, who was not in the area to protest, did not know whom the vehicle she struck belonged to and did not flee the scene.

NOT a protestor, NOT fleeing the scene, NOT intentional ... and so NOT "open season on conservatives."

There's still some unclarity about the situation, but certainly the OP Fox News report that "The driver later hit the rear end of the campaign's parked SUV and drove off" neglects to mention that the police were involved and issued a citation before she "drove off".
The video shared by Ramaswamy's campaign does seem to show the driver flipping a bird and 'meeping' the horn once (as opposed to "laying on the horn" as described). But it's also not clear to me whether it would have been obvious that the unoccupied rental Ford that got hit across the street was associated with the campaign.

The GPD said in their statement that no evidence was found to substantiate the claims of the crash being intentional. McClelland confirmed that Meagher spoke with police before leaving. Fox News reported this incident as a “hit-and-run.”

Daily Wire podcaster Michael Knowles offered his take on the incident, calling the driver a “punk” and saying that they should “rot in prison for years” for “political violence” that is “along the spectrum of assassination.”

Meagher said that she has already paid her fine.
