"McALLEN, Texas (AP) — The Biden administration announced it waived 26 federal laws in South Texas to allow border wall construction on Wednesday"

"There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS secretary, stated in the notice."

It had been claimed for years that Trump built the wall and Mexico paid for it, which meant there is no border problem.

Apparently the Trump supporters' claims were false. As difficult as that is to imagine, we should certainly be thankful that Biden is stepping in to fix yet another one of Trump's failures.

Aah, so now the left supports building a wall on the southern border. Maybe Biden will take it a step further, and work on some more of Trump's projects.

IMHO a wall is a giant waste of money. But lots of people thinks a wall is a solution to the immigration conundrum. I don't think they consider that a wall to keep out also keep people in against their will. Remember the iron curtain anybody? These control freaks do not understand that where there is a will there is a way. I wall empowers those would use tunnels to circumvent the wall. Europe did not build walls to keep out Syrian refugees. People who think a wall is the solution should ,imho, watch the 2003 movie Bad Boys II and gain some insight.

People who want to leave. Like Americans who see the iron curtain coming down or like runaway slaves during the confederate era here in America. I know some don't want that history to be studied but the parallels I see looks like history repeating itself.

People who want to leave use legal border crossings now, and that won't change. We do millions and millions of dollars of trade and tourist travel every year with Mexico, and that won't change.

I still don't see why you believe people won't be able to leave. What would stop them? Do you think American citizens will be slaves? Or prisoners of the US government?

Sounds like there is a need in this specific sector for a physical barrier.
According to government data, about 245,000 illegal entries have been recorded so far this fiscal year in the Rio Grande Valley Sector which contains 21 counties.

I have always maintained that physical barriers are approriate for specific applications. They are not "a solution" for the entire border.

My husband just renewed and had it in two weeks. We requested expedited due to needing it back before scheduled travel. If you apply with regular wait time, then it is taking a very long time but that is the only issue getting one. Demand vs staff to process .

They have these things called airports and boarder crossings - all of which are not effected in any way, shape or form by building a wall to keep illegals from crossing.

BTW slaves were not running South to escape - but North to the Republican states where they would be free. And there were no walls stopping them.
