  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How about a gun?

There are only two types of people you can aim at.

One is your brother in Christ who you are commanded to love.
The other is an enemy whom you are commanded to love.

So Christ commands you to love the person you are aiming at. How loving is it to pull the trigger with the intention to kill?

Can one be a Christian and decide to use nuclear weapons against an earthly enemy?
It's not an academic question, is it? This country decided to use them. Twice. And to maintain the finest stockpile of weapons ever assembled to be used at a moment's notice. The whole political establishment has approved.

Yes, but no real Christians ?
The Christians opposed the use of weapons.
Did they? Did Christians in the USA and France and Great Britain oppose nuclear weapons. Daniel Berrigan did but not many others.

Before we go to deep into this, I want to thank everyone who has and is serving in the MILITARY, you are heroes!
I would also like to thank all the LEO's who put their lives on the line to keep our streets from lawlessness.
Thank you - carry on

Did Peter decide to use a weapon against someone in the place where Jesus was arrested ?
Yes - and Jesus made sure they had swords with them on at least one occasion before a journey.

Yes - and Jesus made sure they had swords with them on at least one occasion before a journey.
So it looks like the point(s) Jesus made are entirely ignored now ?
1: it was to fulfill prophesy that they had one or two swords, not for self-defense nor to harm anyone.
2: be harmless as doves.
3: "put it away Peter" don't use it even in defense of Jesus! And Jesus healed the man Peter struck with a sword cutting his ear off.
4. can't think of it right now....

Sure, why not?

Do you have a verse that lists “using a nuclear weapon” as an “unpardonable sin” … disqualification from access to the blood of Christ that covers all our sins and makes us acceptable to God?
[I know of no such verse.]

Jesus Clearly says today, unchanged from 2000 years ago, BE HARMLESS AS DOVES (for HIS OWN Followers)

That is not the full verse and it is a phrase from a sentence plucked from its context.

People [individual private citizens … Christian or not] do not own or deploy private nuclear weapons. The basic question was built upon a false premise. However I repeat my question to YOU:

WHERE IS THE SCRIPTURE THAT STATES WHAT YOU ARE CLAIMING … anyone who ever uses a weapon for any reason is disqualified from salvation and, therefore, damned!
[You are advocating they cannot be a Christian … a follower of Christ.]

To use it safely against him you'd need to isolate Billy in a place far far away from others.

Well, murder is a sin, a serious one, that is a reason for not doing it.

How about "thou shalt not kill"? Or is that irrelevant to your thinking?

So are you saying Jack is not a Christian, not worthy of salvation?
