  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump loses bid to delay New York civil fraud trial

A New York appeals court has rejected former President Donald Trump's bid to delay a civil fraud trial against him in a case that leaves his business empire in jeopardy.

The decision paves the way for a trial to begin next Monday. Mr Trump and three of his adult children are expected to be called as witnesses in the case. The decision comes after New York Judge Arthur Engoron this week ruled Mr Trump was liable for business fraud.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has accused Trump, his two adult sons and the Trump Organization of inflating the value of their properties by more than $2bn (£1.65bn) to suit the needs of their business.

In his ruling issued on Tuesday, Judge Engoron agreed, finding Mr Trump had misrepresented his wealth by hundreds of millions of dollars.

Mr Trump's legal team had sought to delay the case while his attorneys challenged earlier rulings.
Mr Trump and the other defendants in the case have argued that they never committed fraud.

Ex-Trump Org. executive testifies that Eric Trump led him to inflate values of some properties

Jeff McConney, also a co-defendant of former President Donald Trump, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., testified Friday as the first week of the civil fraud trial came to an end.

Internal Trump Org. spreadsheets shown in court Friday show notations by McConney that say Eric Trump directed McConney in phone conversations about certain property valuations that would later appear on the financial statements the judge in this case has ruled fraudulent

[Examples]

He also testified when valuing Trump’s Seven Springs development beginning in 2011, he included the value of seven homes not yet built at the property. He said he did this at the direction of Eric Trump, who oversaw the project.

Allen Weisselberg, Trump’s long-time chief financial officer who served 5 months in prison for his role in a decade-long tax fraud scheme after making a plea deal, is expected to testify when the trial resumes Tuesday.

Eric Trump pressed on Seven Springs property valuation

Eric Trump said he didn’t’ remember the calls, but also said he doesn’t have a reason to doubt they happened if McConney wrote it in the spreadsheet. He added that he didn’t work on his father’s statement of financial condition.

“People ask me questions all the time but I never worked on the statement of financial condition,” Eric Trump said.

...as expected, the former chief executive played the role of chief victim:

Within minutes of Mr. Trump’s taking the witness stand on Monday, his civil fraud trial in Manhattan devolved into a chaotic spectacle before a packed house. The former president lashed out at his accusers and denied their claims, even while conceding involvement in some of the conduct at the case’s heart.

Ranting and rambling as the courtroom pulsed with tension, Mr. Trump attacked New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, as a “political hack.” He derided the proceeding as “a very unfair trial.” And he scolded the judge overseeing the case, Arthur F. Engoron, for having decided before the trial that he had committed fraud.

“He called me a fraud, and he doesn’t know anything about me!” Mr. Trump exclaimed from the stand, pointing at the judge, who flashed a grin.

See, now I took the old adage “when you have neither the law nor the facts on your side yell a lot and pound the table“ meant the LAWYERS.
