  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A large storm hit the Mediterranean recently. Wind speends reached almost 60 miles per hour. That's almost hurricane strength. Libyan has had alot of flooding, as the rains caused dams to be breached. The storm also resulted in heavy rain, record flooding, and numerous deaths in Greece.

They say 1500 dead so far in one city in Libya - where a couple (poorly maintained) dams broke.

It does seem like super dense rainfall activity is increasing generally.

The US media hasn't been reporting it alot. PBS News hour was focused on Morocco yesterday, at least the brief bit I watched.

I saw the weather radar of the storm and it looked like a hurricane, in place you'ld never expect to find hurricane-like weather.

The American attention span will permit one North African disaster per quarter. Others will have to get in line.

Yep! But I keep telling people to look farther than the nose on their faces. Some people think they are OK because these disasters are not in their back yards. But if you look at the big picture, you will see the turning of the screw. Look, one day Hawaii caught fire, then there were several devastating hurricanes, typhoons, and floods, the earthquake killing thousands. The desert is beginning to bloom. The Earth is in travail and people can't see(birth pains) . I delivered babies for a living. There are stages of labor before birth. There is early labor which is generally mild and irregular and just a little uncomfortable. Then, there is the active stage that is more painful and closer together. Then there is the transition stage which pains are coming very close together and are painfully more intense signaling that the birth is imminent. Get a clue.

I dont know how you justify mapping the physiology of humans onto a planet. Where's the evidence that these two things share a set of signals and cycles? This has the smell of desperate new age thinking to me. Not saying its wrong. But wheres the evidence its right?

Why would the US media cover something that happened that far away that has no direct impact on us here?

With all due respect I am putting some stock in that but not a whole lot and here is why I am unsure whether or not things are happening more often OR whether we are just hearing about everything now due to 24 hour news service and social media. Same with crime this is a little outside of the topic of this particular thread, but is there really much more violent crime OR is it that we hear more about it 24/7 due to the news and social media?

Yes, I was surprised to see headlines...only today, annoucing "Thousands feared dead or Missing". The Red Cross is indicated "independent sources" say up to 10,000 people are missing.

Maybe the scope of the disaster was slow to emerge....

The city of Derna has been most acutely affected, after raging torrents of water tore through two dams and swept entire buildings into the sea. Othman Abdul Jalil, health minister and spokesman of the U.N.-recognized government in western Libya, told local television channel al-Masar that the situation continues to deteriorate in the eastern city, and at least 2,000 people have been found dead.

“I expect numbers of dead will rise to 10,000,” he told the channel early on Tuesday. The final death toll remains unknown, as many parts of the city remain inaccessible, he said. Derna is estimated to have had around 90,000 residents.

OK , I told you. I am NOT a new age believer.
But I am a a believer in the words of Jesus Christ He does not lie, and He said:
Matthew 24:8
But all these things are the beginning of travail.

Things that happen in other parts of the world often do impact us, but even events that don’t are still going to be of interest to many. We are a nation of immigrants who still have concerns about family and friends around the world.

When will India and China come under the same standards for climate that the US is?

Those countries are contributing disproportionately little to the problem, compared to the US. The average American's carbon footprint is about 7 times that of the average Indian's.

Carbon dioxide does not cause severe weather events.

I just think its remarkable due to the sheer size of the storm. Greece got a whole year's worth of rain in about half a day. A storm like that has never hit Greece before.

Gaia is going to have a “fever” to burn off an infection she’s had for about 100,000 years.

Human consciousness will have to transform or we are going to face some very dire times. Such as not thinking of North Africa as being in another galaxy that has nothing to do with the US. The world is far more interconnected than that, in many aspects.
