McCarthy warns House could launch impeachment inquiry in September

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said the House could launch an impeachment inquiry as soon as September if the Biden administration doesn’t provide documents to show that President Biden was not involved in his family’s foreign business dealings and did not accept a bribe.

Mr. McCarthy told Fox Business host Larry Kudlow on Tuesday that, “the whole determination here is how the Bidens handle this.”

“If they provide us the documents, there wouldn’t be a need for [an] impeachment inquiry,” Mr. McCarthy said. “But if they withhold the documents and fight like they have now to not provide to the American public what they deserve to know, we will move forward with impeachment inquiry when we come back into session.”

I mean Trump was impeached off of hearsay evidence because of a phone call. I'd say taking bribes from a foreign nation warrants impeachment. Seems worthy of such a thing no?

How can one produce a document or other evidence that they did not do something that is not a specific act?

It is like asking someone in Los Angeles to prove they have never gone into the Pacific Ocean. They might be able to prove they did not for some specific time, but there is no way to do so for all times.

If they had evidence of such a thing. However, there seems to be no sign of any. Instead there is huffing and puffing that Biden has declined to give them proof of innocence, which sets the American justice system on its head.

What? They are looking for a specific act which bank records, and tax returns would shed light on.

He doesn't have to provide them now. Why should he try to clear his name? He can wait for them to impeach him, and let the courts subpoena them.

And those same back records cannot clear him. A complete lack of any wrongdoing will only result in a claim that he covered his tracks well.

This is EXACTLY the sort of fishing expedition that the 4th amendment was intended to prevent.

Can a Grand Jury call a President to give testimony without him being impeached? Even more, how does a court subpoena the documents without impeachment?

When is an investigation complete? Cannot new evidence be brought forward during a trial?

There has to be probable cause to begin an investigation, Congress cannot simply “investigate” (asking for documents from a principle-target to try to find probable cause)…that would be a fundamental misunderstanding of just how our system of Justice works.

All people’s business dealings are assumed to be honest and above-board unless and until probable cause of a crime(s) becomes readily apparent.
Normally generated paperwork,(SAR’s, e.g.) cannot be used as “evidence” of probable-cause, since these are created even for legal, non-criminal transactions.

Assuming the worst for one’s political foes is par for the course, but cannot be used as “evidence” in furtherance of investigating until we “get the goods” on him!

What is it that you’re missing?
