  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In Matthew 6:9–13, Jesus told us that this is how we should pray:

Code:
O our Father in the heavens,
   hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will come to pass—
   as in heaven also on earth.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
   as we also forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation,
   but deliver us from the evil one.
Amen.

Is it more literal from the Greek? It can happen when amateurs translate that you get something slightly different using Strongs and a little knowledge. The Bible translators seem to know the language better and go different paths too. I am an amateur translator too. Some of it sounded really good, but some not so good. There are a lot of literal translations, none quite like mine.

In the Greek Orthodox church, we use the KJV translation into English. The one thing that you might see is that some people may use "deliver us from the evil one." as "ἀπὸ τοῦ πονηροῦ." can be translated to "from the evil (one)", that is the devil, rather than "evil" as a concept.
