  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can Christians drink whisky?

If you can go a month or two without a drink or thinking about a drink, it plays a relatively minor role in you life. If you cannot go a day without a drink, it plays a lot larger role in your life. If you can go a month or two without thinking about Christ, he plays a relatively minor role in your life. If you cannot go a day without thinking about Christ, he plays a lot larger role in your life.

Here is one:

Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always.

But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away), then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose.

Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or strong drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice.

Personally I drink whisky occasionally. There's nearby store that sells those little bottles they serve on airlines, and I'll get one and mix it with ginger ale to make a "highball" cocktail. And I'll only drink one when I know I'm not going to be driving until the next day. Or on rare occasions I'll get a margarita in a bottle or can. Or rarely a beer. Usually I'm just not interested in it.

Hi LayHong,

I am reminded of a verse, 1 Corinthians 6:12,
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.

I don't think I'm able to answer your question for you, and I definitely do not want to tell you what to do (or not do), but simply direct you to that verse.

No judgment from me if you drink or not drink whiskey, but, if it has power/dominion/hold over you (when you start using the word "need" for a shot of whiskey, or your relationship with Christ suffers because of it), then I would lovingly urge you to consider - and this is not just about whiskey, but anything in life

God bless
