  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky’s ban on gender-transition care for young transgender people was restored Friday when a federal judge lifted an injunction he issued last month that had temporarily blocked the restrictions.

The latest ruling by U.S. District Judge David Hale means the Kentucky prohibition takes effect, preventing transgender minors from accessing puberty blockers and hormone therapy.

Isn’t using the rule-of-law to enforce the majority’s will on a minority (less than 0.7%) the very definition of “tyranny-of-the-majority”?

You mean like when people in States who are opposed to this sort of mutilation, are forced to pay for it anyway, through Federal social programs? Are the ills of Democracy only ills when they stand in the way of the agendas of the Democrats?

Being on the “correct side” of history doesn’t look like we think it does when it’s happening.

What does the correct side of history look like to you?

Here's a little history lesson for you:

"Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; have in general been as short in their lives as they are violent in their deaths." --James Madison, Federalist Papers (# 10)

So minorities just have to suck-it-up and endure whatever the majority says?
How nice for most of the people.

Nothing says "party of small government" more than getting the government intimately involved with citizens' medical choices.

Sure thing. I don't want to be forced to pay for that.

I'm guessing there will be exceptions made to pay for prosecution of people violating this law, though.
Are you suggesting to defund the police? It's good to see the Left is working toward small government; but that approach promotes lawlessness.

You're the one who posted you "don't want to be forced to pay for that" in a thread about a new law, not me.
I was talking about someone else's cosmetic procedures, not vital elements of public safety.

I think it's what we call government. It's like what is happening and what continues to happen in California and New York. No one really likes it. But it's what we have. And we will all continue to moan and groan about it until the day we die. Call it tyranny if you wish but it IS what people voted for.

Oh I know right. If kids want to slice open their penis, turn it inside out and create a fake vagina, they ought to have that right! After all it's a medical choice. It causes no harm whatsoever. After all the worlds health organizations are all in board with it due to all the incredible research done by WPATH who supports no age limit.

Oh wait....

What mutilation? What you quoted states, "preventing transgender minors from accessing puberty blockers and hormone therapy," not about any type of surgical mutilation. In fact, I'd be shocked if you could show me where any minor in Kentucky had ever had any type of gender affirming surgery.

Much more common these days is tyranny of the minority

Seems off topic for the thread, given the OP was a about a law where the GOP wants to block doctors from doing what they think is best for their patients by "preventing transgender minors from accessing puberty blockers and hormone therapy".

But I'm sure the hyperbole will appeal to a few low information voters and get them to vote for the party trying to take away their health insurance in order to give tax breaks to billionaires. That's the purpose of all this culture war manufactured outrage, after all.
