  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Study points to worse mental health outcomes for women who have abortions versus giving birth

A peer-reviewed study released Monday by the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute found that women who terminated their first pregnancies saw larger increases in mental health treatment than women whose initial pregnancies ended by giving birth.

Do you have another link? That link won't let me read it. Also most people that I know, that had abortions had horrible childhood. So, of course they would need mental help.

It looks to me like Studnicki et al and the APA site are doing two different comparisons. Studnicki is comparing women who had abortions to women who gave birth. The APA is comparing women who had abortions to women who were denied abortions (or who, for other reasons, continued an unplanned pregnancy). A woman who chose to conceive and who is delighted to be a mother would be counted in Studnicki's numbers but not the APA's numbers.

The Studnicki study is one good set of numbers to include in the discussion. The "Discussion" section of their paper notes some of the limitations of their study (for example, marital status information for the patients was not available) and suggests some future possibilities for research.

U.S. publisher retracts studies cited by Texas judge in suspending abortion pill's approval

Sage said in its retraction notice, opens new tab that it had independent experts look at the two studies, as well as a third study led by Studnicki, in response to a reader's concern.

The experts found "fundamental problems" that "invalidate the authors' conclusions in whole or in part," according to Sage, which publishes more than 1,000 journals including Health Services Research and Managerial Epidemiology, where the retracted articles appeared.

The publisher also said that the authors' affiliations with the Charlotte Lozier Institute and other anti-abortion organizations should have been disclosed as a conflict of interest, and that one of the original peer reviewers was also affiliated with the institute.

"The Charlotte Lozier Institute rejects this baseless attack on our scientific research and studies," Studnicki and Tessa Longbons, a research associate at the institute and co-author, said in a statement.

What a surprise.

Even if this is true, as interesting as the study is, it is irrelevant to whether laws should be in place to force women to go through with their pregnancies.

Women should have the right to decide for themselves.
I would have no problems with people promoting this study (if it is confirmed true) or even getting this printed and shown to woman seeking abortions. All people seeking medical intervention should know about the risks.
But this doesn't justify government interfering in a woman's decision about her own body.

It doesn't surprise me abortion harms women. Women deserve better. Period.
Good thing you know better than those silly women what's good for them.

Kill the child? That's good for them? It's disgusting how we live in a society that condones violence against the unborn and women.

You think so? Anti-abortion stuff is usually right wing propaganda.
Being anti abortion isn’t propaganda. It’s about saving lives.
