What is a single or divorced person supposed to do when they see attractive people in church ??

Matthew 5:28-30 tells us to mutilate ourselves. Hebrews 10:25 tells us we must attend Church.

if you see someone that is attractive to you and you are involved in some group with them just talk to them about Jesus or something. You've got nothing to lose if nothing happens you have a friend and if something does happen cool. Also if they never talk to you again you're no worse off than before lol

We can't help it if a thought pops into our head, but we can decide what to do with it. In 2 Corinthians 10:5, we are instructed to take every thought captive and make it obedience to Christ, so just because we see someone who is attractive does not mean that we need to lust after them I our hearts. Married people notice attractive people too, but we need to remain in control of what we do with our thoughts.

Berean Study Bible James 1:

15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Strong's 1939: Desire, eagerness for, inordinate desire, lust. From epithumeo; a longing.

Matthew 5:

28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Strong's 1937: To long for, covet, lust after, set the heart upon. From epi and thumos; to set the heart upon, i.e. Long for.

These are two different but related Greek words. Looking at something is okay but looking at something to lust after or covet it is not okay. The Pharisees focused on external behaviors but Jesus shifted the focus inwardly to the heart. Your conscience will tell you whether you have sinned or not.

Lust is not just sexual. Acts 20:

33 I have not coveted [G1937] anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.

The same Greek word can mean also "covet'.

I think the equivocation of lust with adultery, or hatred in the heart to murder, is hyperbole rather than meant literally. By employing hyperbolic language, the intention is to make a strong impact and encourage people to avoid or reject specific behaviors. Lust can't literally be a sin because you can't control every thought that pops up in your brain. But you can choose to ignore rather than follow those thoughts. It's like a "train of thought" going by and instead of hopping on board you let it pass.

1 Corin says God is faithful and will not allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities, but with the temptation He will provide an escape.

It sounds like you got divorced and got married for all the wrong reasons, which is why you are divorced.

Christians have various ideas about divorce. If you made a stupid decision when you were young and wrong, usually out of lust, then accept it and move on. You screwed yourself. If you believe marriage is permanent DON'T GET MARRIED AT 19 SO YOU CAN HAVE SEX.

Didn't Jesus teach against favoritism or judging by appearances. Bottom line. Does that church teach sound doctrine or traditions of men??. Hosea chapter 6, Were warned not to go to Beth Aven. It means house of emptiness. God hates false Teachings. Those involved in churches who teach false doctrine, don't have God's protection or blessings. Psalm chapter 25.

We are wired to find the opposite sex attractive. It is necessary for propagation of the species. We can enjoy the beauty of God's creation...at sunset...upon gazing at the Grand Canyon as sun and clouds move across it changing the light...at the grandeur of a high mountain or lush valley. So, may we appreciate the beauty of a woman (or man). To do otherwise is to deny our humanity and appreciation of God's creation. Lust is a whole other realm of obsessive sexualizing going beyond mere enjoyment of beauty. Appreciate what is around you without making it a source of obsessive thinking and fantasy pleasure. God created us to be attracted
to each other or else the species would never have made it out of the garden.
