  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it a sin to decorate your room with photos of your favorite places in nature, yourself or your favorite singers?

Nope. There's nothing wrong with images, even religious images. The Temple itself was decorated with images, both Jews and Christians have used images in synagogues and churches for thousands of years.

What God forbids in Scripture is:

1) Making an image for the purpose of worshiping that image, or the false god it represents.
2) Trying to depict the Divine Nature in an image, that is, depicting God in His Divine Nature and Being.

That means that images of animals, plants, nature, other people are fine. As long as you aren't saying those animals, plants, or people are gods to be worshiped. That means images of the Lord Jesus Christ are fine, because while Jesus is God, He is also human--as long as you aren't worshiping the image of Jesus itself. That means images of God's saints, both Old and New Testament, are fine.

What is forbidden is idolatry, not iconography. What is forbidden is trying to depict the Invisible, Unknowable, and Incomprehensible Being of God which is Uncreated through something that is created.

What did your GOD say? I have come to give you live and give it more abundantly. Some in the bible were the richest and decorated beyond what we can think.. and GOD? Didn't care....

Yikes! I'd be in bad shape if it were a sin. I am an interior designer.
