  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Update: Trump has been indicted on 7 counts. He is set to be arraigned in federal court in Miami on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET. Thread title has been changed to reflect this..

The Department of Justice is preparing to ask a Washington, DC grand jury to indict former president Donald Trump for violating the Espionage Act and for obstruction of justice as soon as Thursday, adding further weight to the legal baggage facing Mr Trump as he campaigns for his party’s nomination in next year’s presidential election.

The Independent has learned that prosecutors are ready to ask grand jurors to approve an indictment against Mr Trump for violating a portion of the US criminal code known as Section 793, which prohibits “gathering, transmitting or losing” any “information respecting the national defence”.

The use of Section 793, which does not make reference to classified information, is understood to be a strategic decision by prosecutors that has been made to short-circuit Mr Trump’s ability to claim that he used his authority as president to declassify documents he removed from the White House and kept at his Palm Beach, Florida property long after his term expired on 20 January 2021.

That section of US criminal law is written in a way that could encompass Mr Trump’s conduct even if he was authorised to possess the information as president because it states that anyone who “lawfully having possession of, access to, control over, or being entrusted with any document ...relating to the national defence,” and “willfully communicates, delivers, transmits or causes to be communicated, delivered, or transmitted or attempts to communicate, deliver, transmit or cause to be communicated, delivered or transmitted the same to any person not entitled to receive it, or willfully retains the same and fails to deliver it on demand to the officer or employee of the United States entitled to receive it” can be punished by as many as ten years in prison.

It's not a big deal. It's almost like nothing.

If everyone always got caught, and all laws were always enforced, every citizen in the country would have gone to jail at least once in their lives.

Good. No one is above the law.
Everyone is above the law. We're human beings, and the law is our servant. We don't necessarily have to apply all the laws all the time.

...For instance, I saw a violation here on CF today, and I didn't report it. Why..? Because I'm a kind person.

Ah praise God nothing will happen. I been saying for awhile now.. the closer it gets to 2024 you will see them try to do much more.

It would see every thing I see read today...almost all (not all but most) on the left and those in Washington are far above the law and.. it does not even get posted here...odd huh

When the "lock her up" comes back to bite you, and way too many of your administration.
One more soon to be addition to the Trump wing of Riker's Island.
So the left is no better, or more moral, than the right. Got it.

...Because if it were, it wouldn't be nit picking all these trivial things, just to prevent someone from seeking office.

Trump getting the nomination is Biden”s best chance for reelection. I don’t think preventing Trump is a factor in his indictments.

That's an interesting view.
I haven't committed any crimes that I know of. I don't believe I am special, I feel that most people haven't committed crimes.

But is this the best argument you can come up with in light of D Trump's recent indictment?

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted for a second time, this time on federal charges in relation to his handling of classified information while out of office, sources familiar confirm to ABC News.

He is set to be arraigned in federal court in Miami on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET, sources said.

“We’re learning from our sources that there appears to be at least seven counts here. This ranges from everything from the willful retention of national defense information to conspiracy to a scheme to conceal to false statements and representations," ABC News' Katherine Faulders reported during a special report on the network.

Yes indeed, trivial things. This is just one of three. Not sure you're going to hold up.

You seem to have an inaccurate definition of 'trivial'.

Most people have had a few alcoholic beverages, and have driven. Most people have stole 'something' at least once in their life.

Are you sure you've *never* done any of these two things in your *entire* life?

What a bizarre response. Like what are you trying to accomplish here? It smacks of an almost flabbergasted desperation. You okay, bro?

Driving infringements are very different from a criminal record.
I have had a couple of speeding tickets.
I have never stolen something. I don't steal and I seriously doubt that most people steal.

I wouldn't be worried about a presidential candidate who has had speeding tickets in their past.
I would be worried about a presidential candidate who was found guilty for stealing classified documents from the government, concealing them and refusing to return them.
I'd also be worried about a presidential candidate who conspired to steal an election, by organising an alternate slate of electors and putting pressure on their AG to declare widespread voter fraud, and put extreme pressure onto election officials to either ignore the vote count or to "find" votes to push him into the win column.
