The funeral of the Queen may have topped 4 billion making these the two most watched/attended Christian services in history and superbowls and even soccer world cups pale by comparison. More seeds and fruit may have come from the thousand-year-old British monarchy (the longest-lasting Christian monarchy in human history (even more than the Byzantines)

I saw an outdated display of opulence that is completely out of place in the modern age. Is this meant to draw people to Christianity?

Though I attend a Church of England Church and an Anglican, I am part of the Church for faith reasons and community, I am a Republican at heart and believe such an event of unjustified wealth to be vulgar, outdated and a reminder of the still entrenched class system that we still bestow respect upon individuals due to some bogus "Divine Birth right".

Unless they stated somewhere in the service that it is only faith in Jesus that gives a person God's free gift of Eternal Life salvation and not other religions. Then it was no more than a big ole party just like any other big ole celebrity party.

Then I doubt if you watched it at all. The annointing of Holy oil for example involved the stripping of such worldly trappings away and the private commitment of the monarch to God without robes and crowns. The whole first part of the service was conducted on a throne facing toward God and only when that submission to God was confirmed did he turn toward the people. I saw in this service an exposee of the impoverished reductionism of the modern age. Whole dimensions of faith and the relationship of church and state are missing from the modern understanding of these things but were present in this service.

Again this seems reductionist to me and to have lost the sense of majesty, glory and splendor which itself is a witness to the greater majesty, splendor and glory of the King of Kings.

Even though they are Anglican, it was very Catholic-y in ceremony/appearance. Those who watched it that I talked to were against some of the pomp for that particular reason. And the one is an ex-Catholic. I think the service would have resonated better with those who are Anglican/Protestant or Catholic.

As a Messianic American, the apparel was interesting as a foreign viewer. The receiving of the New Bible though I thought was appropriate. The crowning was fine. Even the sword was fine. The rest: the robe, the spurs, the ring, it was all very curious to me.

ETA: Oh, but I actually believe in a class system, not out of force or obligation, but you will always have people who are more successful, some people are just lazy. As Christ said, you have the poor with you always and just like the poor we will have the rich with us always.

But I do believe in the Divine Right of Kings -- it is biblical. [Romans 13] Whether they are kings or presidents, God establishes and God tears down. And if David was a man after God's own heart and he refused to commit treason against Saul because he was God's anointed then I think all Christians should respect all governing authorities, whether we personally like them or not.

All meaningless ceremony draped in excess of wealth. This is what the majority of the world sees when looking at the British monarchy. Millions tuned in to see a spectacle and not for reasons of reverence.

This was a distinctively Christian service and only the Trinitarian God was glorified by it. The resurrection of Jesus was affirmed and this is all that is needed to affirm a true believer. At the same time, people of other faiths and no faiths were invited to the service which also corresponds with the example of Christ who sat with tax collectors and sinners in order to win them to Christ. But they are no part in nor affirmation from the liturgy and songs used.

Think of all the revenue they got from tourists. Unfortunately for the monarchy they are indeed a tourist attraction. I respect the Royal Family (well, maybe not specific people in it, but I respect the Crown anyway), but even I acknowledge that they're a fading flower.

Interesting but the Archbishop of Canterbury who led the service is an Evangelical. Anglicans combine Catholic, liberal and biblical themes. The service started with the presentation of a bible to the king as a guide for his kingship. King Charles is more ecumenical than most protestants would care to be but the result of that is a continuity with the entire global historical church. The chants from the Byzantine church for example were from the world's second longest (by duration) Christian monarchy, that of the Byzantine empire, which lasted a thousand years.

A leader submitted to God can be obeyed yes. That indeed is the biblical witness and the global historical church has submitted to such leaders. He can also be held to account by the standards he swore to in this ceremony. I get the impression this is about a broader issue of authority and whether or not a man can call on such Christian authority to rule.

The USA was founded on flouting such divine directives so I guess this might be harder to understand and is more heavily engrained into the culture over there.

This accusation has been made many times before and has been refuted by events innumerable times, this is also something that can be fought for or against. The British public still retains an enthusiasm for the monarchy and their worldwide impact is undeniable given the viewing figures. Which other world leader has offered anything like the depth of Christian witness demonstrated in that service yesterday?

I have a hard time imagining Jesus being involved in a spectacle like that. It just isn't the kind of picture I get of Jesus from my reading of the Gospels.

And of course I think that a monarchy has no justification in modern society.

That star quality meant that millions / maybe billions also heard testimony to Christ, the words of scriptures read and a profoundly Christian revelation of the relationship between power and God. So a pretty successful evangelistic strategy really. Charles started the service with a declaration that he was here to serve not to be served. The wealth is a symptom of British worldly success but the true heart of the monarchy was revealed in this service and explains its longevity compared to the also-rans of the rest of the world. The Christian monarchy traces its roots to King Alfred with next to nothing.
